She pulled out her stitches! This isn't an emergency or anything, I'm just shocked. Stella got spayed last Tuesday, and I've been keeping her in a onesie 24/7. That was working great, in fact, she didn't even seem to have an interest in licking or scratching at her stitches. UNTIL last night...first, she kept us up all night. I think I've finally decided that her pain meds made her VERY hyper. She did not sleep a wink, but she normally sleeps through the night. Then, she managed to wiggle out of her onesie (no idea how she did it) TWICE. So, after the second time putting it back on her, I checked her stitches to make sure they were still ok and I put a tighter tshirt of hers over the onesie so she couldn't wiggle out of it again. But then I woke up this morning after a night of very little sleep and was changing her onesie and noticed that her stitches were GONE! Not like...pulled out and untied...just completely gone. That means she managed to bite through her onesie AND the tshirt to untie them and pull them out while they were still tied..somehow. Thankfully she's healed enough where I don't think it'll be an issue (and it's definitely not an emergency) but I'll call the vet tomorrow to make sure. I looked everywhere for the three stitches, and I found two of them in our bed (hopefully the third one either passes or is just on the floor somewhere). I was moreso just shocked that she managed to do that without making herself hurt/bleed and through TWO layers of clothing! Anyone else have this happen before? |
ooooooops :D they really are little terrors at times  poppy was fine when she was spayed , she never went near her stitches ;) but my mother in laws lhasa apso did this too , i think the wound had already healed :) hope everythings ok for you and your baby  love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
What is a onesie? |
Stinker! Are you sure they weren't dissolvable stiches? I know they do that a lot more often now. I'm not even sure if that's possible as I have a boy, not a girl, so I don't know if they can do that for girls but Jackson's were dissolvable. |

What a crafty little girl. She must have figured it was time for them to come out. |
Mine did the army crawl and her stitches got snagged in the carpet and she pulled them out like that. It was her second set and luckily had healed. We're getting ready to go through that in about 2 months with our second one we get in 5 weeks (she's an adult so no one freak that we're getting a puppy spayed) :) I like that onsie idea. We have a ton laying around here...... |
Tinksmum a onsie is a infant t-shirt that snaps between the legs. Here is a link with a picture of one. http://www.princetontigershop.com/pr...AIAFBCAACDGFH& |

Thats what I am scared about with Roxie- she needs to get spayed and I dont want her to pull out the stitches. She is a licker! LOL I think though our vet uses the dissolvable ones, or I know he did on Ryder for his neuturing, I can only hope! LOL |
Bailey pulled her stitches out - not all at once, but a few different times. We caught her the first time, and then brought her back in to the vet. The vet told me about the onesie trick after that visit. Even after the onesie AND a plastic cone on her head, she managed to somehow get the remainder of the stitches out. Normally vets don't use dissolvable stitches on females because they want the girls to come back in & get checked out after the spay (at least that's what my vet told me). Juts make sure to observe the incision site & make sure she's not bleeding. Make sure to bring her back into the vet if you think something's wrong though. Normally the post-op care is covered with the spay fee. Hope all is well! |

I think I would call the vet and ask. Otherwise I would drive myself crazy worrying, especially since I usually choose the middle of the night to start worrying.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
