Ruby's Vacation We just got back from a week long vacation in Nags Head. This was Ruby's first long trip away from home. She did great! She was so good in the car and at the house we rented. I was afraid the different environment would affect her eating and pottying but it didn't seem to phase her. We carried her to the beach and she loved it. She actually walked and swam in the ocean. I was very surprised because it seemed too cold to me but again it didn't seem to phase her. She even made friends with a Westie. So I guess it is safe to say that she is quite the traveler. :):aimeeyork:) |
Awwwwwww, what a nice story...I'm always thinking about the first time Apple and I "go out of town", and wonder how she will do...I'm sure she could use a change of scenery, as I could too!! I have an x-pen ready to go, should we go somewhere...Did you let you baby run free on the beach, or on a long lead? |
That is great! Glad you all had a good time, and Ruby did well!:) |
We will be going to Nags Head in September with our little Tessa. Any advice on places that might not let her in? (Other than restaurants) We are renting a cottage on the beach so that will great for us and her! Thanks for any info! |
Sounds like Ruby had a great time. It's nice to know she can travel and not have any issues with adjusting. Would like to see pictures.:p |
The different areas down there have different laws. Nags Head has a leash law for the beach. They must be on a leash that is no longer than 10 feet. However, owners of larger dogs let theirs off the leash when they were retrieving in the water. There is really no one around to enforce the laws but we did keep her on her leash. |
We really didn't have a problem when we did take her places. Obviously, we didn't attempt Food Lion or restaurants. When we did shop my husband or one of my kids sat with her. Most places have chairs or benches outside so they sat with her there. My husband would rather do that any day of the week than shop. And Ruby enjoyed watching the people and birds and anything else she could see. There is a store in Kitty Hawk called Salty Paws. They make homemade treats. Ruby absolutely loves them. They come in different flavors and are the shapes of sea creatures. Her favorite was the pizza flavor. They also sell toys and other things. |
