Looking for some advice Hi, I am a newby here as well as new to the Yorkie breed. I got Colt 3 days ago and have a few questions. I have read a lot of post here and a lot of threads but there is so very much to read. I do have a 2 year old Maltese, Cody and when I got him at 10 weeks old I had a lot to learn then too but hey, (whew) I got it...lol Anyway, I took Colt to the vet yesterday. He is 11 weeks old and weighs 11 ounces. The vet gave him a great bill of health except he still has a soft spot on yop of his head which he says in normal for little dogs. (Cody had one too). My questions are pretty much basic. I did go to the growth chart but that only confused me. I was looking for suggestions on what type of puppy food is suggested and how much should be given as well as treats. My Maltese favorite treat is radishes!! Also, the breeder said Colt has already been Frontlined. I remember when Cody was Colts age and was told repeatedly that at 11 weeks old, it is to young for frontline. Anyone know any thing about this? One last question, I bathe Cody in a special shampoo and Creme Rinse, For Maltese Only. It keeps their coats white as well as beautiful and very soft. Does anyone have any good suggestions here? Sorry for so many questions but I really do want to make sure my little one gets taken care of the best I can. Thank you in advance for any advice. |
i'm going to be using oatmeal shampoo for our yorkie we feed raw diet, homemade recipe, some people are really into that and others aren't it should be good for both of your dogs, it's very simple to make, and you can put it into little containers and store it in the freezer, which reminds me i need to set one out tonight in the fridge to thaw for tomorrow...... if you want the recipe i'm more than happy to share, my aunt's mommy gave it to her as as hobby nutritionist for dogs and my aunt "Karrie" (on YT from MO as well) gave it to me...let me know and i'll PM you. |
Rachel, Thanks!! I would LOVE to have some recipes!! Thank you so much and they sound as though you gained them from a very knowledgable source!! Again, thanks!! |

As for the Frontline, I don't think my dog, Rigby, could use it for awhile. I am thinking he was 15 weeks before he could use it. I don't even use any of the topical anti-flea treatments anymore at all because now they make a pill. I think it's so much more effective & he doesn't have to walk around with a greasy spot anymore! :) Not sure about what the ages are for the flea pill, but I would ask the vet.:aimeeyork |

Before I tried PetSilk and settled in with it I tried everything out there. But the only one I used before PetSilk that I liked was EarthBath Puppy.PetSilk makes the coat feel and smell great. They keep smelling fresh for quite awhile! You would probably like it. You can see the products here Index |
