I got a nibbler!! ok so Jerry AKA beans(5 months old) is such a pain in my rump!! hes always biting.. not to hurt you but you know, just playing i guess. but i dont like it because if i bring him around kids that dont know him they think hes attacking. plus its obviously not a desired behavior! im just wondering - is this a common male puppy thing and it will pass as he gets older? or is there something i must do to stop him now before it gets worse?? whenever he does it i say a stern NO! and put him in his kennel or outside but i dont like punishing him. it makes me feel bad hes sooo cute. maybe i just need to get a friend for him? i dunno? please help!! |
Good luck! My Madison is 8 months, and I've tried everything to get her to stop biting. She loves to chew on my hands!:( |
If he's biting to play with you then I would tell him a stern NO or NO BITE. If he does it again tell him no again and ignor him. Pretty soon he will realize that biting does not get him the play time and attention he desires. Also I always make my baby sit before we play. It helps to calm her down and reinforces the sit command...instead of a treat she gets to play. I also do this if she starts to get too excited. Hope this is of some help! |
My Patrick would sink his teeth into anyone who played with him. Then I saw an episode of "It's Me or The Dog". Victoria Stillwell suggested that you make a high pitched, short, sharp squeal each time that the puppy bites too hard and they will quickly learn not to do that. It work for me. All I get now are sweet little kisses :kiss2: :kiss2: :kiss2: :D |

A loud OUCH usually worked with Samantha when she was a puppy. Eventually, she grew out of it. Now, if we're playing and I put my hand in her mouth, she immediately stops and starts licking it. Vivian |
Rockie was a nippy little furball :animal36 I use to say a loud ouch, and he finally got the message. He likes to lovingly nibble all the time now. |

Whatever you do, do NOT say "no bite give kisses!" Unless you want to be a doggy pop the rest of your life LOL (see my thread Mr. Licky Lickerson :D ) I got Pixel to stop nibbling by squealing "ouch" and then saying that, but now all he does is kiss me constantly! It worked though, so maybe try the "ouch" and ignoring for awhile part, and leave out the give kisses part. :D |
Lots of puppies will be nippy esp at that age ... they are teething but you need to set the boundaries and they need to be set in stone or you're going to be a pin cushion for the rest of your life when little munchkin bites you make a loud noise what ever you want NO ... OW....NO BITE! this will signal to him ... Uh oh something just happened and quickly you and your pinched fingers and/or toes go byebye no second words or expletives just leave he will immediately know that what he did was wrong |
Just a suggestion, if he's insisting on chewing on your hand give him something that he can chew on instead. Mine love bully sticks:) |
