pups from same litter!!!! Hi, I am new to the forum and the proud owner of two new 8 week old yorkie pups, one male - Alfie and one female - Bayley (hence the user name!) from the same litter. I am wondering if there is anyone else out there who has had pups from the same litter and what their experiences were. I have had a lot of people say that I should not have had two from the same litter??? What are your views - and any advice would be most appreciated.... |
Hi! :wavey: :welcome4: I don't have litter mates, but Gracie Ruth & Yogi are full siblings - same parents, different litters. So no experience with what you are asking, but did want to welcome you. :) |
hmmm, I have littermates, 2 girls..now about, I don't know 13-14 wks old? I'm terrible at math...born 042809. I've never heard anything negative about littermates. Welcome to YT. It is a wealth of information. |
Hello and welcome to YT!!! Sorry, I don't have any experience with littermates. |
1 Attachment(s) I have two littermates (brothers). They are best buddies! This is what they look like everyday when I leave for work. |
how adorable - bet they are such fun together! I am wanting another pup to be with my 1 1/2 yo male - I think I have found one fairly nearby - just waiting to hear:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

I dont have littermates but I got mine both as young pups. They are only 1 month apart in age and have the same sire. Anyway they are inseparable. I havent had any problems raising them together that I wouldnt have had separately |
My two girls are from the same litter. I have not had any problems with them. Ceci even helped take care of Angels puppies. |
Congratulations! The only thing that I would be concerned with is when your female goes into heat. I don't think brother/sister mating is a very good idea. Maybe someone out there knows more info about that. |
I am going to get them both neutered so that wont be a problem. I am a little bit concerned about their play. They start off playing quite nicely but it turns quite vicious to the extent where one will yelp and run off but then they start again straight away. I intervene at this point and distract them but I am worried about when I leave them alone. will they settle down? |

I think Buster Bailey is 100% right. It does really sounds vicious at first, but what you described sounds like my boys when they play. Usually the one that yelps is the one that starts up the play again too  As long as they let up when one yelps (I think thats like "Uncle!" or telling the other one they've gone too far), its just playing. They do settle down too. One usually poops out, and then they are back to snuggling with each other. I am SO SO SO happy we got two littermates! They are such buddies! You will never regret it!! |
