Do They Get Better?? My Yorkie is 9 months old and it seems like all I do is chase him around, try to stop him from eating things, clean up pee messes, and try to keep him from chewing furniture, wires etc. After 7 months of this, I am TIRED!! I really want him to have access to most of the house without me having to watch his every move. But he is nowhere near ready for this. I feel like I am alienating myself from him because I get so frustrated and need breaks from it. I usually have him in the laundry room during these times. Do they ever grow out of this mischevious stage? I feel like I have a 2 year old!! Please tell me it gets better. TIA. |
It does get better! Just hang in there. Your almost there!! Around a year for Bell. |
Did you do any training with him when you first got him? I've had my Chloe for 3 weeks now. I'm crate training her, pee pad training her and i use baby gates in my house to limit where she can go. Also, trainers usually teach to not chase them but to teach them to sit so when they are doing something wrong you tell them to sit and then pick them up. When you chase them they think it's a game. There is so much work at first to training them right and it's hard. I've let Chloe get away with a little to much and i have to stay on top of her... just like kids. Treats have helped train her alot. Hope that's some kind of help. |
Thanks for the replies. I am trying sooo hard with him. We did puppy classes when he was really young and I have been diligent with potty training. He is just not getting the concept. I thought I was making progress for a little while but it has gradually gotten worse. He just cannot hold it long at all. We are taking TONS of trips outside. I want to enroll in another class (first one was clicker training and I did not like it so we only went to some of the classes). But I need to save up some money for it first. I just hope that it gets easier soon. |
It will get easier:) We have really relaxed rules around here and our puppies I've found are calming down a little already. I read about all the stress and training and classes and stuff that goes on and I guess I just don't get it. We don't try that hard with any kind of training and it doesn't seem like ours have any more accidents than anyone elses, and we certainly don't stress over it. We just know they will eventually get it (the pups). Maybe you should just lighten up a bit on yourself and try spending more time just enjoying him :) He'll eventually get it:) |

My Louie is 8 months old and some days he's good with the training and others just horrible. I feel like my days are filled with cleaning pee mess, but everyone tells me it does get better. They are like kids when you first potty train them-they'll have their accidents, but we all eventually get it. Stay patient and when you have rough days, put him in a designated area for a little while (Louie has the kitchen gated off) and go relax. When you come back to him and see that cute little face staring at you, you'll be ready for another day!! :) |
let me tell you ... I was almost ready to give up on Ahia about that age! but she came around just fine. It was like one day to the next she snapped out of that stage to the "teen" years. you will make it. hang in there. |
