should I get a puppy? I like yorkies, they are so cute. I like the tiny ones, and have often thought about getting one. It would not be my first dog.... So today, I was at someone's house and was enjoying looking at their tiny female (she looked to be around 4.5 to 5 lbs), and mentioned that someday I would like to have one. The owner said that they plan to breed her with a teacup yorkie next year. The pups would probably be ready about a year from now. I asked her the price for a pup, but she didn't know yet. Could someone tell me the average price of a pet quality female tiny toy yorkie? I am in Northeast Indiana.... |

From these places you have almost a 100% chance of getting a puppy with health issues. Yep, just be careful. It's not a huge deal in my opinion to call them "teacups" for the general public but there really is NO such thing. Yorkies are one size. When you see people advertising yorkies as teacups... they're trying to up the price and lure people in. No respectable, responsible breeder will breed for "teacups". Also, I'm kind of against random people just breeding just to breed. Does she have experience? Has she ever bred before and done her research? There are SO many unwanted dogs in shelters and on the streets. Why add to the overpopulation of them if not necessary? There's already plenty of well known respectable breeders out there or shelters to choose from. I wouldn't get into it unless you're really passionate about it, know what you're getting yourself into. Generally speaking, the smaller "teacup" the Yorkie = more health problems and more precautions necessary to owning a smaller Yorkie. They break legs very very easily, with one step on them they could die, they get injured easily, etc. I'm not against owning a tiny dog, just know what you're getting into and research the breed! |

I agree with what was said about where to get your pup but also you mentioned this wouldn't be your first dog. I just know that owning a small/toy breed like a yorkie is very very different than any larger size dogs. Yorkies will give you tons of love and affection but you are also require to spend time with them also. I would rec'd that you look around YT and see if a yorkie is right for you. |
