Legislation Would Require Pets To Be Included In Evacuations |
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that. I've been fuming over how poorly animals were treated in the evacuations. I've never written a congressman before, but if this looks like it's going to be controversial, I'm going to do it. |
Good post!!! |
Thanks!!! It's about time!! We need to jump on board and support this!! |
great info. we do need to support this. the poor animals get left behind to fend for themselves and it just breaks my heart. i know that alot of the new orleans people had to get out so fast just to save theirs and their own family's lives, but the pets should be considered too. i'm sure no one left their beloved pet behind that absolutely couldn't take them. so someone needs to make sure that the one's who just aren't able to take them in a situation like that, can get help for their pets too! |
Great, I saw a lady interviewed in New Orleans who just refused to leave without her Chow. Not sure what happened but I felt her pain. I just could not leave mine. Have vowed to get out sooner and find a hotel who takes pets, since I live in Fl |

We Just Might Do Some Good Here! THIS IS A LETTER I JUST GOT FROM OUR FLORIDA CONGRESSMAN: Dear Mrs. ____: Thank you for your recent correspondence in support of H.R. 3858, the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act. I appreciate hearing from you. H.R. 3858, introduced by Representative Tom Lantos, amends the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act to ensure that State and local emergency preparedness operational plans address the needs of individuals with household pets and service animals following a major disaster or emergency. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and while I am not a member of this committee, I will be sure to keep your views in mind should this legislation come to the House Floor for a vote. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views. If you are experiencing difficulties with a federal agency, are interested in legislation that is pending before Congress or merely wish to express your opinions, please visit my website at www.adamputnam.house.gov. May God continue to bless America. Sincerely, Adam Putnam Member of Congress |
Awesome job, Muffie's Mom! Or can I call you Dear Mrs. ____? :) Kidding. Your voice was heard. And it's a great cause. That sickened me during Katrina, and I have no doubt people died or were miserable because they refused to leave their pets. Quote:

Pat, Great job on sending a letter to your congressman so quickly! I agree, we really do need to support this... Watching the news made me cry after the hurricane because those people were not allowed to take their pets with them...I would never ever be able to leave my Miko behind! It was so sad...I hope the bill goes through. |
