Boy vs Girl for our second puppy? We have a 1 1/2 year old altered male and thinking of getting another puppy soon. I've heard it's better to get another male but I'm worried about the Alpha male syndrome. However, my DD13 really, really wants a girl (which we will alter as well). Which should we get? We want the dogs to get along.... TIA Karen |
Either is okay. Go with what make DD13 happy :). |

One of each sounds nice...my male altered Pekingnese does not appreciate my male altered yorkie puppy...although, my peke doesn't dislike my female...he could do without her...lol! Anyway, back in the day we got our peke a female french mastiff and they really really loved each other...kind of nice having one of each. I tend to favor male animals for some reason but adore my girls as well. Good luck with the gender you choose. Oh ya, you could end up with a dominant female anyway...one of my female rabbits beats on everyone...lol!! |
I would go for a girl so you'll have one of each.:p |
I get the girl, my niece had a girl and made the decision to get a boy. It worked out really well for her. |
Thanks everyone, I think girl is the winner. That will make DD very happy :D |
My Coco (male) was 10mo old and neutered when we got Pebbles. They are the best buddies ever. He is s gentle with her. We also got another gir Trixie when Pebbles was 6mo old. (they are very addicting:D) All 3 are just the best pals. I say go for the girl!!! |
Males usually give in to females.. Altered or not. I find that 2 females usually fight.. 2 males can sometimes fight. I say go with female!! |
I love my little Luigi, But... I always wanted a female and a male. But I was leery because of the marking horror stories. So I decided I would get male and have him neutered at 6 months like I did with my dachsund Frank 20 years ago. He never marked at all. So I got Luigi and brought him to the Vet to set up his neuter at 6 months. But the Vet said he was two small and needed to put on a few pounds. He was 2.1 pounds at this point. Finally at 8 1/2 months he was 5.1 pounds and I brought him in to be neutered. Then they found he only had one dropped testical, and it was posponed for another 2 weeks. In the meantime he started marking anything and everything. Finally got him fixed at 8 1/2 months but marking continues. I now need to rip up my rec room carpet, he pees on the kitchen garbage can, the corner of my stove, on only one chair leg, etc. I ordered belly bands but he just soaks them constantly. I am at wits end. But he is just so cute and I love him so much, Any hints or ideas from anyone. :aimeeyork:thumbdown:( |
