Joey will only go potty on the pad and NEVER outside!! Does anybody else's pup do this? Joey is a true city dog (we live in Manhattan), and he has never once gone outside...only if we lay a pad down on the sidewalk! We have had him out for like 3 hours at a time too...he just doesn't get it! It kind of upsets me because it shows me he CAN hold it, but then he'll walk into our apt and have an accident...why will he pee in the kitchen of our apt (not always on the pad), but not outside?? So weird! |
oh wow.. i remember back in the day when i thought Chicle would never go outside.. i was beginning to come to terms with this fact but one day i took him out and i guess he just couldnt hold it any longer and BAM A TURD! but no pee... until i decided to take him out in the mornings and now he pees and poos inside and out ... :)my lil champ! |
thank god - then there is hope! |
lexi goes only on her wee pad. i take her out every day and she smell and smell the other animals peepee as if she was gonna do it too. no way, shes never gone to the bathroom outside and i cant get her to either...im lost too. join the crowd |
That was Riley too! I would walk him four blocks and he would head straight for the piddle pad or paper when he came in. This is what I am trying now, and having success: Every time I catch him in the act on the pad, I say, "Good boy, taking care of business!" I have started saying, "Take care of business," when we are walking, and he has started to do it! Now, when I take him out, I have a little bag of treats along with me. Each time he does what I say, he gets a little treat- they are just a different kind of kibble than his usual food. He is getting so rotten with it that he lifts his leg, even when he doesn't have to, squeezes out one tiny drop, and then waits for a treat! |

Maximus has only peed outside once..and as Judy can contest too..I even bring wee wee pads to the park in case he has to pee.... he usually still won't use them andinstead will hold it and cry until we get home :( ..... I don't think he realizes he is allowed to go outside...so I just carry a pad with me everywhere |
I just starting saying "go potty. go potty" to Stewie when we were outside in the same tone that I would tell him to go on his pee pad when we were inside. It takes time, but Stewie is almost a year old and went from being completely trained to go on pee pads inside to a totally housebroken little boy in two months! |
OK...I feel a little better knowing that I am not the only having this problem. Deb refuses to go outside....my problem is this. We are trying really hard to not let her go on a pee pad anymore..because she wasnt doing so well with that either..just outside...even tried taking the pad outside with no luck. She has been spending so much time in her crate so that we can take her right outside when she comes out of the crate....but she still refuses to go outside. I am getting concerned that she will hold it so long... I honestly didnt even think she was capable of holding it. Should I be worried that she is not going more often? |
The good ole days of puppyhood. I thought Chloe would never figure it out, but once they do it outside and you go nuts with praise and a treat, they figure it out. Lower your voice when you want him to potty, use the same phrase each time, repeat, repeat, repeat. When he goes, raise your voice level, get all excited, give a small treat. If he doesn't go in 20 mins, go back inside and keep an eye on him. If you catch him going potty, tell him we potty outside, take him outside again and show him. Staying outside a long time doesn't help. |

That's beneath her to do it where everybody else does. She's too much of a lady. These dogs are just too funny sometimes. She may surprise you one day and go outside. |
