ppad then outside? hi im new today & im so glad i found this board as i was almost at the point of thinking of giving him up (but i adore him) but im way too over that. anyhow frankie is only 9 weeks & i just started to really get on his rountine for the potty training deal.i think i was giving him WAY TOO MUCH freedom. i also am a proud owner of an akita & they get along AWESOME! anyhow i was wondering should i train him on the pee pads in my home on the first floor, 2nd floor in the bedroom bathroom where i have strated to put up a baby gate type of thing with his crate in it for nite time, & in my office at work at the cafe? & then move along to outside after he has that down pact or start with the outside training now? my yard is too big without a fence right now & itll be a sort of an inconveniece at the moment too. the thing is that with my akita he started to go out in the garage (i know gross but it was a routine & worked) & then just automatically switched to outside as he got older & liked it when we went for walks. so now he holds it till morning, i get home form work, & at nite! & im afraid for the lil one to go with him as the big dog goes pretty far out to do his thing & we have trees behind there. thanks |

Anyway, since he is only 9 weeks old just have to be patient with him. Sorry I really can't be of any help with the pee pads. In my opinion I would train him to wherever he is most of the time. I would say just pick one spot. It takes consistency and lots of patience just like potty training our 2 legged children. Good Luck and please don't give up on him so soon, he is way too young to be ready to have it down cold. Don't forget to praise him when he does go where you want him to. |
Welcome! 9 weeks is young, but do start training now. Princess is now 2 years old, and I think we just about got it down. When I first got her at 9 weeks she would go where ever she wanted. It took about three weeks for me to find the right spot for her pads. We put a doggie door in, and she would go out to bark, but not to potty. So for a year we had pads down in her spot, and it worked. Then one day she went out on her own, and I'll be, she goes all the time now. She did have a few accidents, my husband said put the pads back down, but she didn't use them. I guess she was telling us she's a big girl now. Be patient with him, it takes time, They are so worth it! Good Luck, and Again Welcome! :love:Gina & Princess  |
