Where to start a new puppy off for sleeping?
 

Basically i have the exercise pen for when i can't be watching her during the day time, and there's a doorless crate in there for her to lay in.

i have another crate with her blanket for her to sleep in, but which room should i put her in?

A) Kitchen in crate: this is the same room her pen is in, tiled floors, away from our room for whining purposes

B) living room in crate: this is where she'll spend all her playing time when i am watching her and where her crate with the door is during the daytime

C) office room in crate: not super close to our bedroom, in her own room where i can close the door if i wanted to

D) our bedroom in crate: if she whines i'll wake up, but i don't know if i'm supposed to keep her close to us for her own comfort, or keep her away from us so she gets used to sleeping without whining?


My thought on this, i don't want to give into whining puppies, it will not be something i will just get up outta bed and continue to check on her about, because i want her to learn that whining doesn't get attention, but at the same time, she's little and new to our house, and i don't want to make her feel left out or unwanted by sticking her in another room to whine and cry alone all night??

what should i do??

well when i got my little guy he slept in a crate in my room and would only whine for 5 minutes then go to sleep for the whole night. then because i spoil him :rolleyes: he started sleeping in my bed with me. but i knew he couldnt keep doing that so i got a huge crate and put a bed in it, blankets and toys and he sleeps just fine because during the day he can go in and out whenever he wants and at night he knows its his little house ya know? it works great for him and it hardly whines at all.

Until mine were potty trained , I had them sleeping in their crate in my room, so if they had to potty I was sure to hear them.

I suggest you ask your breeder to rub a blanket on the mommy dog for you before you get your pup and keep that in her crate the first few weeks so she has the sent with her.

I actually got to meet each of my 3 breeders when my pups were just day's old and I took a few baby blankets and left them their for the breeder to get the scent of mom and litter mates and what not. When I brought my pups home I kept the scented blankets in the crate with the new puppy and it worked like a charm! No whining! Maybe you could ask your breeder to do this for you before you bring your li'l girl home.

Rockie slept in my daughters room and did really well with potty training until we transferred him into the bathroom. He odviously prefferred sleeping near his mommy. So he was a brat for a little while about sleeping in his bed and being confined to bathroom:animal36 so he could stop pottying all over the place. He finally got over that(being in bathroom) and was moved to kitchen in his larger x pen.
