Australİa says no !! We are plannİng to move back to australİa after 4 years İn turkey. And the oz quarantİne say that they do not accept anİmals from turkey due to turkey's rabİes status. We have been told that we have only 2 optİons...the fİrst move to a country that wİll accept our puppy and İs on the oz quarantİne lİst for 6 months or leave dolce behİnd İn turkey. I know wrİtİng thİs message wİll not achİeve anythİng except that i just wanna say.......wİth all the tests the the 21st century has..how can İt not clear a 6 month old puppy and allow İt to lİve a lİfe wİth hİs famİly. I feel sİck to the stomach..yes i understand that australİa wants to keep out such dİseases...but come on ....... A 6 month old puppy wİth hİs fİrst 6 shots completed....never untİl now has come İn contact wİth any other dog..... İt's kİllİng us....... And we know that we should gİve hİm to a good home before he gets any older.........but we are havİng a hard tİme doİng İt. Anyway i just needed to get thİs off my chest ! Thanks for your attentİon :) dolce's dads daddy 'o' and daddy 's' |
That is so sad. I know you are hurting over this. I pray everything will work out. |
Oh no!!!! How horrible!!! I don't know what I would do in that situation! I'm so sorry for you and your family! :( Quote:

I am so sorry you have to make that decision :( I had looked into moving to Australia for a few years, and I was ready to go through with it until it came down to the animal laws. I couldn't bare to take Layla on such a long plane ride under the cabin and then need to put her in quarantine for months! I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide. If I were you I'd probably do anything, even if it meant moving somewhere else for 6 months. |

Tahnk you for your kİnd words and thoughts blessİng to you all |
that's horrible. My sister and husband faced a similar but less permanent situation with their cat. My BIL had to moved back to Australia a few years ago for a job and of course my sister was going with him. They have a cat that they wanted to bring with them. He was allowed to go but there was a certain protocol regarding vaccines, microchips, and bloodwork that they needed to follow before he was allowed in the country. He even needed to be shipped a certain way and by certain companies. After getting into the country he would have needed to stay in quarentine for at least a month, maybe 2, i really don't remember. The quarentine place was actually really nice and my sister was allowed to visit everyday. In the end they opted to leave the cat here with me instead of bringing him because bailey was a huge baby and very sensitive. They were worried he wouldn't survive the plan ride and then the quarentine. They did come back to the US 2 years later and bailey is living with them again (and i got morgan when they took bailey hehe). The US has rabies disease as well so i don't understand why turkey would be excluded but not the US. Are you sure there is no way for you to bring dolce with you, even if she has to be quarentined for a short period? I know even that would be tough and another decision all together whether that would be best for a puppy but at least it would be another possible option. |

Good luck to you guys, I hope you find a good solution. |
Could someone in the US foster him for 6 months then give him back to you? Just a random thought.... :( |
Oh, no. I can't believe it! There must be some way around this. Do you know someone in an acceptable country who would take him for 6 months? And he is such a sweetie. This really is breaking my heart. There must be some solution. When told that if we had to be evacuated for some reason, Samantha couldn't go, I said then I wouldn't either. But that's not an option for you. I think I'll do some research ... Vivian |

The US has several military bases in Turkey and, technically, they are considered US soil. So what if you found a foster parent on one of the military bases for 6 months? Every base my husband and I have ever been on has a veterinary facility so Dolce wouldn't lack for good care. Would that be acceptable? There's got to be a way. |
I think y'all have come up with some wonderful ideas! Surely there is a YTer who would be willing to do this! |
Hmm.. I would be willing to foster him for 6 months as long as you covered his flea medicine/heartgard, vet visits, and handled all the paperwork and flying/transport costs. I could handle toys/treats/food/etc. I was going to foster for a rescue but if you need me send me a PM. I have one Yorkie and do dog sitting, so I will have probably one other dog here. Oh, he has to be semi-well behaved. Not bark too much, and friendly with dogs/people and our cat. If you think this would work I will have to confirm with my parents that it is ok. |
I would take him, but Egypt is also on the not permitted to enter list. :( |
Sorry I can't offer any ideas, I have never been out of the US and know nothing of international law but I sincerely hope you can find a way to keep Dolce. Good luck and please stay on YT when you move. |
Oh guys I am so sorry. I know this is so hard for you and I'm hoping something can be worked out...so glad you put this on here & you never know, maybe one of the ideas may & can pan out for you... We can clearly see how much you love your baby and would love to see that you get to keep him. I was thinking also maybe someone fostering for a short time or someone I think mentioned finding a military based home that would be willing to do it... Oh what a tough situation...I'm so sorry & wish you the best of luck! |
Oh no! What a difficult situation! I hope you can find a way around it! |
I'm a newbie to Yorkie Talk and an Australian-Australia has some of the strictest quarantine laws in the world and in my opinion an unnecessary amount of red tape. I can understand the need to keep the country Rabies free but you would think that sometimes common sense would prevail. Lots of dogs come here from the US and although the quarantine used to be very harsh (I think at one time it was six months!!) I believe it is much easier now. There are dogs coming in from all over the world-including mainland Europe. I will ask on the Aussie dog forums as there are lots of people who have imported from overseas-this is a very sad situation and hopefully there will be a solution. |
Have posted on the Oz dog site and had a look at the AQIS web site-if you did have him fostered Hawaii would be the best bet, only 30 day quarantine from there, the web site is www.aqis.gov.au and all the information is there, will post again if any useful information comes from the aussie site. |
Have had a couple of replies and it seems the only solution is 6 months residency in an approved country-I'm pretty sure the quarantine from U.K is only 30 days now. Lots of toy show & pet dogs go thru the quarantine and handle it very well and owners are allowed to visit, I think the care in quarantine is very good according to feedback from owners. anyway best of luck with whichever choice you make. |
This is so sad, I'll be praying for a speedy resolution to your problem... Keep us updated.... |

This is just heartbreaking..6 months is way too long... I wish I could help but am in Canada part time and the us part time.. please keep us updated on your decision... and an extremely hard one at that.. anne |
the UPDATE WE have decided that One of Dolce's Daddies will leave to go back to Australia (ME) while Dolce's other daddy stays behind until we can aford to continue with having to go to another country which AUSTRALİA approves of. We have decided not to foster him out as we feel that this will effect him on a deeper level..... I know that I would hate to be moved around from home tot home and have get used to new people that I don't know....thinking why my famiy left me with these people and why!!!! So for now that's where we are with this all.....and of course should Australia update their conditions we will have the family back together again :) It a huge sacrifice but we pray that it will be worth it :) Oh and I will do my best to bring this all to the attention of the Australian public some how....but knowing some of the attitudes of some Aussies I doubt I will make much of a difference :( ciao and thank you all so much for you support :) |
Although very hard for the Daddies, it would be harder on you both & Dolce to give him up. I think you made a good decision. Best of Luck. |
I'm glad you chose to find a way to keep him! Your Dolce and my Sugar have a name in common ~ even if in different languages :) |
