And also because i love toy breeds I get accused of wanting to be Paris Hilton!....NOT funny! I have actually had people say to me when they see Pixie, 'you're not a Paris Hilton fan are you'? Has anyone seen Beverley Hills Chihuahua? do you think films like this just make the whole toy breed obsession worse? Like Legally Blonde...my teenage neice became obsessed with getting a chi after seeing this film...then got given a Spaniel puppy by her parents and lost interest in it after just a week. |
Uni just knew that you were the one A marriage made in heaven Quote:

I first had a 'dog in a bag' back in 1993...she followed my lead i do believe;) |
A friend of mine has a chiuahua named Rio We was on a job last year and bought some food from the chip shop near where we was working, my mate got a couple of saveloys(sausages) and had one bite and said I don't like these and put them back in the bag. When he got home he gave one to the dog who turned his nose up. Later that evening he threw them on the lawn for the foxes that visited as he watched even the foxes refused them. I guess the sausages weren't very nice |

I'm glad this topic was posted. I know that teacup is used as a marketing ploy and to get more money and they're higher health risks having a "teacup". I fell in love with Lucy when I saw her; she was the same price as all of the rest. She is 6 months and 3 lbs. I thought she'd make it to 5 lbs and maybe she will. Regardless if she's 3 lbs or 7 lbs, I'll still love her. I get a lot of comments when I'm walking her. Some people frown upon tiny dogs calling them rats or is that a dog, it's smaller than my cat. I do not call her a teacup because I know there is a lot of negativity around that name. If people question her size I tell them I don't expect her to get much bigger. Some ask if she's a teacup and I'll say yes thinking they are using the name and I know what they are referring too. It sucks that we have to defend our yorkies size whether they are tinies, teapots or teabags. ;) |

never heard the term teapot until now I didn't even know you called the bigger ones teapots, how cute. as for teacups, i was avoiding the breeders proclaiming to have them at all costs, i wanted a standard sized pup and i don't want it to be sick because it was too small or bred to be so small...in the old days, they called those the "runts" and they weren't MORE money, they were "less" money because of the commonness of health issues with being smaller than the rest of the litter and not getting as much milk supply. there's my two cents worth! that's all i had |

i wanted to add that i didn't mean to offend anyone who might have a runt puppy, they are completely adorable and would steal my heart too, my cousins chose a runt on purpose because he was having a hard time getting picked out, and he's perfectly healthy and wonderful, he's a maltese named Georgie and i think he's like over 10 years old. so sorry if anyone thought i was saying that runts aren't any good, it's not the size that matters it the fact that we love our pups no matter how teapot or teacup they are!! |
I have always been a sucker for the runts and the scruffy ones, I call these real dogs. My younger bro has an english sheepdog, but as he is a sucker for the scruffs too, he also has a 15lb scruffy mongrel, ripper his name is, but what a lovely and intelligent dog, I think he is great. |

Myah is the runt of the litter....the rest of her littermates are around 6 lbs. She is just a little over 3 lbs. And she does get called runt from time to time. When people as me if she is a teacup....I just say she is the runt of the litter, which is true. I didn't pay more for her...actually she was given to me, because the breeder wanted to make sure she would be well cared for. I wish Myah would have been bigger, but she is very healthy!!! Any of the "terms" to describe their sizes don't bother me. It only bothers me when the breeders are doing it on purpose and expect more money for the small ones. |

This is so weird, I was just thinking about this thread yesterday, I do not understand either why is ok to use teapot and teacup not, lots of people when sees Melody said oh a teacup try to correct them but some people just don't want to hear it, they look at you like  so I do tell them if they see open to it, and if I have the time lol, to tell you the true here in Cali is very common the "T" word, it doesn't bother me as much anymore:animal-pa |
