Those who clean with vinager This is a bit off topic but I just wanted to ask, what do you do about the smell? I have cleaned with it before and the smell is awful! I just picked up a large bottle and want to give it a go again, how much do you mix with your water? I don't want my place to smell super bad lol :p |
I actually don't mind the smell. I'd rather have the vinegar odor for a few seconds while it dries than the smell of chemicals which lasts a lot longer. :) I mix mine stronger than most do, I believe; 50/50 or so. |
i do about 50/50 perhaps a tad bit less. I use white vinegar and once it dries, there is no smell. Since i'm so used to it, I don't even really smell it when it's still wet. |
I do about 50/50 also and once it dries there is no smell (although the vinegar smell doesn't bother me). I love that it makes the house smell and feel clean without chemicals or that "cover up" effect...it really gets rid of smell. |
Add a bit of bottled lemon juice... |

I probably dilute mine 3 parts water 1 part vinegar (white distilled). I am thinking that maybe I should do equal parts since every one else does but I haven't had any problems doing it 3 to 1. |

I don't delute it... I clean my rabbit litter boxes with it. I spray it on, leave it on, then wipe it off. I don't smell a thing... |

Hi, I put essential oils in my vinegar spray. I do 50% water, 50% white distilled vinegar, and about 10 drops of lavender or other essential oil that I like in to "cut" the smell. It cleans great and smells nice. |
I use 50/50 and after a little while the smell is gone. |

Okay thanks for the great advice, I am going to try the lemon juice, I LOVE LOVE lemon juice so I bet the smell will be great. I want to start cleaning with something more natural, I was into buying the natural cleaning products but then I thought even if they made with plant base materials, they STILL may be harmful to children and animals. I do bleach but I want to do that only every few weeks or once a month. But I wash my floors at least once a day sometimes twice so the costs are running me high as I use almost a whole bottle of small cleaning products and I just don't feel safe doing it! |
Windex now makes a new cleaner with vinegar in it ;) I use it daily :) |

Nothing cleans better and safer than Vinegar and lemon juice. Takes out most odors. White Vinegar to clean with and Rice Vinegar on my salads... |
I use it 50/50 also....I love that I can use it safely with my puppers and my 6 month old grandson...who'll be crawling soon.:D |
I will have to run out and get that premade lemon juice they sell today. I bought a big jug of White vinager, my moms says this is what they cleaned with back in the day when she was growing up! I will have to deal with the smell because the benefits are more important to me. I never use vinager for anything except salt and vinager chips lol But I do drink water with lemons in it daily! It is great. |
Undiluted white vinegar to disinfect & kill bugs I use straight white vinegar in a spray bottle to clean my kitchen counters--also litter boxes and other hard surfaces I want to disinfect. Sometimes I add a few drops of Seventh Generation dish liquid to the bottle. Undiluted white vinegar is also a great insecticide for ants. Because I love my pets, I don't like using anything toxic--and I have the weeds in my lawn to prove it! :) |
