How much running is too much?
 
So we all know that yorkies are hyper..at least peanut is..
I recently started to rollerblade around my neighborhood and realized that peanut loves to run beside me =) We usually go for about an 30 mins to an hour and we go about 7pm when it is perfect temp and the ground isnt hot for his little feets! He does a good soild 5 mins of running and I pick him up and carry him with me, then I will let him run some more and I do that off and on... Do you guys think there is such thing as too much excersise for them? I dont really know I am starting to take him everyday with me and I dont know if it is too much for his little legs or what...I was just curious about what you guys thought I know they need excersice but is there such thing as too much?

I would think that if he didn't want to go, he'd plant his bottom and let you know. It sounds like he gets breaks and that you do it when it's not too hot, so as long as he gets a drink, I'd say it's fine.

I think it depends on the dog. My 11 lb Chachi is very adventurous and My son has taken him with him when he goes rollerblading and he loves it and could go for a long time. My Jewels on the other hand is smaller, not very adventurous and very laid back and she probably wouldnt like it. They will let you know when they have had enough

I am SO jealous. First, Thor would never run in a straight line beside me, and second, he thinks rollar blades are work of the doggie devil.

I think it is great exercise for him, and you could probably even let him go longer than five minutes if he can. Dogs LOVE to run together, I am sure it is very bonding for the two of you. He probably thinks you are rollarblading around, looking for prey.

I think if he starts noticibly bulking up, you should stop. It's unlikely to happen, but you don't want the "yorkie on roids" look. :D

Ya thats what I am thinking too!! Its also realy good bc the whole sidewalk we go on has grass so he gets to run on the side of me in the grass, He loves it.. and its sooo funny because when I put my skates on ( I put them on in the living room hehe) He gets really excited he starts running in circles and barking haha..When I have him down running he gets really excited and egg him on and say "come on peanut, come on peanut" MAN peanut is like a greyhound!! He is really fast! At one point we were going up hill and I was huffing and puffing trying to keep up with him hahaha!!
Then we come home and he sleeps for about 10 mins and is looking at me like he wants to go more!!!

Yeah it took some training to get him to like the rollerblades and some training to get him to stay on the side of me!! We had had some falls..well I had some falls!! We are pros now =)

HAHA ya I like pnut the way he is...I dont want him all looking like THe Hulks dog!! hehe

Yeah my little 4 pounder peanut is very high energy when he wants to be! He will usually let me know he is done or needs a break bc he will either lay in the grass or plant his butt down..then I carry him till he starts worming around to get down.

I am so glad that he loves it! I tried to get my boyfriend to put on some rollerblades and do it with us..but he wasnt having any of that lol He said he will start to run on the side of us but he has been really busy at work and not really in the mood to run soooo I am glad I have my peanut with me!!
