Help please I have a 3 1/2 year yorkie that I rescued about a month ago,she has since had babies that are now 3 weeks old. I am wondering if anybody can give me some good advice as to how to stop her from growling and nipping at my four year old grandson. He is very sweet to her and at times because he jumps around this will startle her, and I did tell him, he has to be soft when he goes around her. The real problem is, is that he wakes up in the middle of the night and often comes into my bedroom but Miracle has growled and gone after him. :-( This is in the middle of the night. I know part of it is her babies are in my room, it's the middle of the night, usually around 1 or 2 in the morning. Does anybody have any advice as to how I can get her to stop doing this? |
Little boys are so active that it will upset a new mother.I would suggest you put the pups and mom, in another area so you do not take a chance that he will get bitten. She is protecting her young and has the right too. It is a hard thing to control in the middle of the night. HOpe all turns out well for you. |
Your dog is protecting territory You are brave to take on a pregnant dog, what with all the probs of rehoming. I would suggest putting the dogs in another room for a while untill she has settled in better, get yourself in a proper routine with her after the pups have gone. |

I will continue to try to work on this. thank you for your help. |
Can you put the mom and babies in a fenced off area at night to keep them safe and your grandson. They would still be in your room but safer. Another option is lock your bedroom door and have your grandson knock when he wants to come in and you can get up and make sure he gets in to your bed safely. It would only be for little while till the puppies are weaned. |
do you have an exercise pen or play pen you could move them to that way they are still in the bedroom but sort of zoned off from anyone else, might make mama feel safer and keep the child from being bitten. |
