Peanut has stumped me!! Need advice!
 

Hey guys!! So we just recently moved in to our new place and pnut is doing OK with going on his peepee pad...We have a 170 sq ft patio and the patio connects to the living room so hubby likes to crack it open so pnut can go lay in the sun ( he loves the sun!)

Well my little peanut decided that he wants to poop outside on the patio lol when the door is open and he has to poop he poops out there... I dont get it!! I dont tell him he is a bad boy..bc I dont think it is that bad I mean he is pooping outside...but I dont want to confuse him!! ahhh I dont know what to do!! What do you guys think??

Ps he is also peeing where he poop..I just noticed :D

Just because a puppy is house trained in one place doesn't mean he will be in another. Moving usually means back to Potty Training 101 for a refresher.

My 13.5 year old Lady who has been potty trained for ages and will use both pads an outside interchangeably suddenly wouldn't use her pads when I moved last year. :eek:

She apparently did not like the spot I selected for her pads so we had to find one that we could agree on. ;)

I had to pen her with her pads, treat her when she peed, etc, just like she was puppy to get her back on track. It took a few weeks, but we worked it out.

is it possible to move his pads out there since he seems to like to potty outside or take him out out to potty?

hmm So maybe he doesnt like where I put his pad.?? Maybe he likes to poop outside cuz he thinks he acts more like a dog hehe

Ya thats what I was thinking...But when we are not home and at night I wouldhave to put the pad bk inside....

yeah i guess that wouldn't work cause you don't want to have to leave the door open all the time. maybe a doggie door? or put his pad inside right by the door?

how is your furbaby trained?? outside/or pads?

Mine has been trained to go outside since day one.

hmm what do you do when you go places like family's houses or like when its really cold outside? That was one of my concerns when I got him I thought that pee pads were so easy...Then I thought of teaching him to go outside and I thought " is he going to go when its rainging or cold and dark"?? I know this will be easier to train him esp now that he is going on the patio...

We went back to Potty Training 101, but I moved the pads to a place Lady approved of! ;)

we go to other people's houses all the time. She holds it there too. Back when she was younger she sometimes did have an accident in my ex-boyfriends apt or a friends place but that was because she was still learning that she had to hold it not only in her house but in everyone's house.

She goes to the bathroom outside 365 days a year. She's like the mailman LOL rain, snow, sleet or hail (ok maybe not hail LOL ). She learned that when its raining or snowing, really cold or really hot she has to potty faster so she gets to come back inside quicker. I'm always out there with her (ok, i'm in the doorway) because the backyard isn't fenced and she's not on a leash now. When she was a puppy and we were training i took her out on a leash to the section of the yard i wanted her to potty in. I carried her out there, put her down, and said go potty. Then i stood in that one spot and she had the 4 foot diameter to go potty in. There was no walking around, exploring or playing. it was strictly business. Sometimes we stayed out there for 15-20 minutes in that one spot until she went. When she did potty she got a treat and play time either inside or out. She learned pretty quickly to potty fast in the rain because i took her out there in teh pouring rain on her leash and stood there for 30 minutes until she went. I had to do that maybe one other time for 15 minutes until she went and then she figured out the faster she potties the faster she gets out of the rain.

That's why cross training is perfect. Lady will use pads here, but since I also take her out several times a day, so she's used to outside potty, too.

When we visit, I always take her outside to potty. Not everyone is comfortable with a dog pottying inside their house, plus I don't think you can expect a dog to search for pads in a strange house.

Bad weather is the reason I taught her to use pee pads. Lady doesn't do rain or snow.

I have found doing both to be perfect. Lady's night vision is not good since she's gotten older. She's afraid to go out in the dark. We do our last outside walk at suppertime and her last pee before bed in on her pads. She goes on command so it's great.

Missy potties both outdoors and on peepads. I've also found the odd poop on my deck. :rolleyes:

Alfie has never gone in the house, he always go's outside.
Anyway he likes to do a back dig and cover it so if he tried that indoors I would have no floor left.

Dogs do not like pooping in their den, so perhaps he is saying thankyou.
