She hates my BF I got Camel in May. She is a 3 year old Yorkie rescue. I have a feeling that she was kept in a crate 24-7 because she was not potty trained and had no idea what a leash was. She has made great strides and is feeling a bit more trusting day by day. I have never had a dog in my life, so it's an adjustment. Anyway, Camel hates my live-in BF. She barks or growls at him if he comes too close to me. He tries to get her to like him, but no progress thus far. I think she just sees me as saving her and is protective of me, but does anyone have any ideas of how to help her like him? |
Good for you for rescuing that cutie. There are a lot of people on hear that have experience with rescues and hopefully they can give you some good tips. |
Will Camel take treats or anything from your boyfriend? I think the more positive things she associates with him the better. Maybe he could feed Camel her meals, walk her, give her treats, etc. I wouldn't force anything at first, but maybe anytime she allows him to get close to her he could offer her a treat until eventually she wants to be near him... |
Alfie was the same when we rescued him, June is home all day so she is really the boss, he used to dive between us and growl at first. It just took a while and a lot of patience with him. He still growls at me when I go to bed, June has to lift him off my side that he claims most nights lol, then he settles once I am under the covers. I take him on long walks to the woods and fields, which has got me closer to him, perhaps your BF could take her for a short walk each evening to make the bond. The treats are a good idea to win her over. |
Welcome to YT! Everyone has given you good suggestions thus far. Make sure your bf does some of the caring for her, feeding her, walking her, giving her treats. If she doesn't allow him to at first, don't force it, in time she will, but make sure he is at least present while you do. Also, make sure he talks to her as often as you do. She may have had a bad experience with a male/men in the past. If you are consistent, she'll eventually come around. Bless your heart for rescueing this baby. Good luck to you! |
