Changing Your Yorkies Name - Mean? Confusing? Stewie's nickname was Monster. Now its shortened down to "Monst". We NEVER call him his name. Ever. My dad refuses to call him Stewie (I live upstairs from my dad so we are together everyday)He only calls him "Monst". As I type this, my dad is yelling for him from the other room. He no longer knows his name is Stewie. Monst is such a force of habit! Is this mean? Are we confusing him? and have you inadvertently changed your Yorkie's name to his/her nickname? |
"Monst", how funny. I seriously doubt it would confuse them. I think eventually they learn to respond to many words/sound of your voice.... Besides, Yorkie's are soooo smart!!! :D |
That is cute...and original...Monst..perfect for Halloween. I think they can get used to severla different names just as we do. I am sure he lves it. |
I think Monst is great!!!! Very cute name!!! heheh!!!! PS--go Tribe!!!!!! |
I hope it isn't mean or confusing because we have done the same thing. We have called Lily 'wookie' forever. She only listens to me when she feels like it anyway so I guess it doesn't matter what I call her. |

if toby started answering to "grampas call for little hitler" i would be upset  |
Poor Lexi is in the same boat, we were at the vets yesterday and they kept calling her Alexis and she wouldn't responde the tech came in and said it's Lexi and she jumped and turned around to see. They then all started saying Lexi. She does have many names though  and the only 2 she doesn't responde to are Alexis, or Alexis Lynn. My husband mostly calls her baby girl. |
My "Tinker Belle" must be really confused then! We call her........ Tink Muffin scruppy smink poo-head beee-beee ........or anything else that comes to mind..... sometimes a combination of those above, (scruppy-muffin) oh, and then theres.... sminker-doodle doodle noodle stroodle she doesn't seem to care WHAT we call her! |
Yeah same problem here, her real name is Princess Porscha Kay um porscha when I want her to listen but more than everything else Porka! I dunno it's sounds good hahahah |
Out of 7 younguns not one is called by just one name. Midori was Dori-dooz; Cruiser is Cruiseman; Remi is Rem-dooz; My hubby is not imaginative with nicknames so he just calls them by their real name twice. Remi is Rem-Rem; Skylar is Sky-Sky; Snickers is Snick-Snick. You get the idea. They respond to each name we call them . I have a gorgeous new girl-with her tongue sticking out all the time. She has not named herself yet, but when I use my high-pitched baby voice or praise voice, she comes running..She is 13 weeks old and under 2 pounds so I have to call her often to make sure she is okay, so I hafta name her soom or she will think "Mommie's baby" is her name.. |

I hope it's not confusing! Olivia was called Ingrid for the first 5 months of her life. Now she is called: Olivia Liv Livvy Lou Liver Small Smally Small Little Bits Does anyone else have any silly nicknames? |
rosie is called ro ro pink pinkleton puppydog mommys girl beuity baby girl wendy androsie :rose: :yorkiesar |
Ours all have multiple names too. There is no gender discrimination...the boys come running when I say 'who's my good girl' and vice versa. The widget(wee midget) will stop dead, turn and bolt straight for you if you meow like a cat. When I call one I usually get at least 5 and I stand there saying, "Is your name Echo too?". Everyone thinks their name is who'smybaby. |

Mommie's baby is a cute name!!! :p I am very happy to have this posting up because I was curious about that as well when we get our Yorkies and how we are going to train them. I read somewhere that you have to be careful about when you use there name in coversation if that is the name you are going to train them with. When you say there name while on the phone or talking to someone, they will look to you for instruction but when they see you are not acknowledging them, they learn to ignore you when you do say their name for training because it doesn't mean that you are neccessarily talking to them. Anyone else ever heard of that rule??? Are we to call them by the full name during training and nickname other times? |
I'm a little concerned about this too because we are going to adopt a little almost 3 yr. old yorkie and I really don't care for her name. I was hoping to change it but I don't want to do it if it's going to confuse her or upset her. Has anybody had any experience with this? Do you think it would be unkind to try to change it? |
Yeah well this is how my whole naming process started. We couldn't name Baby, so we just saying " come here Baby..." and then I decided it should be her name. So many people told me i couldn't name her baby and I just told them to watch me. So i don't really have a problem calling her anything but Baby..however I think my boyfriend gets confused sometimes...lol |
Loki has tons of nicknames and responds to most of them: Monster (He's really not but we started calling him that and it stuck!) Loki Monster Buddy Mr. Dog Doggie Puppy Baby Dog Mr. Woof (Yes silly but he "woofs" under his breath rather than barks most of the time!) I'm sure it's fine. Yorkies are smart!! |
Charile rarely if ever gets called charlie. i am the only one who does call hime charlie. He has quite a few nicknames, he responds to all names though. I don't think stewie would be confused. Yorkies are very smart dogs. |
