Leaving for Vacation Hi friends, Sorry I haven't been on here for a while, but too long of a story. I am leaving on vacation soon. My DH and I have a wonderful woman who pet sits in her home. This is the first time we are leaving our two Yorkies, Tasha (11) and Mia (2). Is it best to just drop the pooches off and just stay a short time and not make a big deal that we are leaving? Just want to know how to handle this in the best way as to not traumatize our Yorkies any more than necessary. Lastly, I was wondering your thoughts on how the Yorkies adjust to being away from their owners, since this is their first time away from us. We'll only be gone for 5 days. Thanks so much! Elaine;) |
Familiarity I know how you feel. Our pups were pretty young the first time we boarded them (it coincided with a round of shots). I felt confident the vet did a good job, and that they were well taken care of. Next week we're going to Disneyworld (gonna be gone for a week), but this time my father's gonna stay with them here @ our house. My wife and I went back & forth about whether to board them again, or not, but we decided that since we could get someone to come stay, it's best to leave them in familiar surroundings. I would say if you can swing it, go by your "pet sitter's" house, so they can become familiar with them + the surroundings. Is this person a good friend ? Does she sit other dogs ? It depends on your puppies, I think they get a little bummed but it sounds like you have made some good arrangements for them before you go. Try not to worry too much, have a good time on your vacation !!!! |
As dog sitter I prefer the not long drawn out goodbyes. They seem to adjust quicker . what I usually do is as happily as I can say "lets go outside" and take the dogs in the yard while the owners quietly slip out the front door.:) |
Sorry I can't help you. We have only left Maddie one night.:( We called my parents at least 5 times to check on her. She always goes along on vaccation with us, even those 23 hour car rides to Colorado:eek: She does great! |
I know it will be hard, but I think it is harder on us than our furbabies!!! Have a great vacation! They will be very happy to see you when you get back! |
I agree with the quick unemotional departure. The first time I left Samantha, my housekeeper brought her down to "wave goodbye" to me. Never again! She swears to this day that Samantha was sitting on her lap crying with tears pouring out of her eyes. Even now, Samantha sleeps in my bed the first night or two. My biggest worry is always that Nadia will forget she doesn't eat for the first day or two and cook for her the whole time I'm gone. She did this when I was in the U.S. for 3 weeks last year and I had to put Miss S on diet when I got home! |
U will b fine!!! lol Quote:
When I had to go to NY to care for my daughter on the birth of her first baby, I left them with someone I thought would be good with them, she was and her kids , but her dump a--- husband was a as-------. no more with them. I now leave them if I have to with my brother and they do fine , I leave home made food in the freeze and I call every day . And they have the tv on the Disney's channel, lol they love it. Make sure u check people out and that every one that live in that household loves dogs, cause they will ran around and bark at noise. I might start sitting for fun , when people go on vacation, either when I'm in IL or Orlando, I always have so much down time. It will be fun , to see how much they will miss u when u get home, lots of kisses, my kiss me then ran as fast as they can ran all over the house and back for more kisses. Have a great vacation !!!!! bark@ulater!!! manina, miley:aimeeyork, max:aimeeyork |
My husband and I just returned from Disney World we travel there at least 2 times a year . . .Our kids (20 and 16) stay behind and take care of the babies for us. I can tell you that yes, they'll miss you, BUT, they really don't have any concept of time . . .just like when I go to work each day and then return home, it's like I've been gone forever. They'll be fine . . .have a GREAT trip! :D |
