Nutrical Would it be okay to go ahead and feed my baby pup nutrical once a day from the time we get her until at least two weeks go by and she's better adjusted to our lifestyle? I mean it won't hurt to give her a little on a finger everyday just to be on the safe side? |
It wouldnt hurt but theres really no reason to give it if she isnt having a hypo episode or sick and not eating. |
You do not want to give sugar to your pup if it does not need it, it can actually mess her insulin levels and actually make her have hypoglycemia.... Do some more research on how insulin ( it is a hormone ) levels behave and how to keep them stable... if your pup eats a premium food and has its naps during the day you should be fine ... It is very good to have Nutrical on hand "just in case" you need it, but it should not be used as a "snack" or daily supplement if there is no need for it. Here in YT you will find great advise .... When I got Missy at 7 weeks of age, I noticed by Day 2 that her blood sugars were dropping. I had to give her two peasized amount of Nutrical 2-3 times a day from 7-9 weeks of age, and then I gradually started to wean her down from that amount from 9-11 weeks of age. This was all done under the instruction of my vet. |

Great advice, maybe she will see your post and make arrangements with the breeder to take her puppy home a little bit later than you did ! XOXO |
NutriCal if overdone can cause your dog to become diabetic....be very careful, do not over do. |
Thanks a ton! I'll get some at PetSmart to have around just in case i need some. I've been through the whole "taking her home too young discussion already" She is a little young to leave her mom, and i wish i could convince the breeder to keep her longer, but when he told me he takes the mom away at 6 weeks anyways and the pups that aren't purchased go back out in a kennel, my heart broke a little and i just wanted to take this pup and care for her. sounds stupid and you're probably thinking i should just get a different breeder, but i feel like i can rescue Sadie and take better care of her than that. i know backyard breeders = bad, but this time i'm going with my guy here and getting Sadie to my home where i can love her and look after her. btw, this breeder seems to do pretty well with giving out pups at 6-8 weeks. he's got a lot of references and i've even met one in person and she said her pup did really well despite the age, because the pup learned that her owner was mommy and didn't have an attachment to her doggie mommy so there was no whining problems or loneliness issues... people have strong opinions for both sides, some say 6-8, most say 10-12 weeks...i don't really know what i believe, but i know what i've decided for us!! I'll let you know how Sadie does as we get her and take care of her... Rachel P.S. The breeder did say if she's not doing as well as he's hoping he'll wait a little longer, so maybe he'll wait until she's 8 weeks at least *fingers crossed* |

but just research a bit more and you will be able to understand why puppies should never leave the breeder at such young age... Just for you to think about it a bit, it is unlawful to sell puppies before they are 8 weeks old. In my state it is. keep searching here and you will find many posts about the right age for bringing a puppy home and many different experiences too. At least get informed on what to do if things do not go so smoothly ... although we wish all to be very good and smooth with you and your new baby !!!! |

As to you knowing what to believe anymore. 6-8 weeks is another dangerous time in a puppy's life (weaning time). Here's what reputable breeders follow. Taken from the YTCA code of ethics/conduct. 8) All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs. . 9) Breeders will provide puppy buyers with written details of feeding, general care, date and types of a minimum of two (2) inoculations, as well as dates of wormings, grooming instructions, etc. and be available to offer future advise as needed. |
