New to YorkieTalk Hi I am new to Yorkie Talk. Still trying to figure it all out. I have a little girl yorkie named Chloe she will be 12 weeks on Wednesday July 29. She is weighing 2 and a quarter right now. She is my fist yorkie. I absolutely love her!!!!! Just got home from the vet and she has a floating knee??? Does any one know anything about it?? Should I be concerned?? Also I do not work during the summer and I am not looking forward to going back to work. Any advise how to help Chloe not get separation anxiety. I will be gone 5 - 51/2 hours a day? Look forward to meeting all of you. Anyone close to us?? |
Hello there and welcome to YT. I do not live near you but wanted to say hi. Before you go back to work start leaving her alone a little bit at a time and get her used to you being gone. I am sure other YT members will have some other suggestions for you as well. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and congrats on your new girl! I don't have any experience with floating knee but I'm sure someone here will be able to help out. |

I dont know anything about the floating knee but I would buy an XPEN when you return to work. Its almost like a playpen but sits on the floor. That way you can put her wee pads, bed, food and water and toys. She wont feel so confined. Good luck to you...Send us pics... |
Welcome to YT :wavey: An X-pen is a great idea for Chloe while you are at work......start by putting her in there for a little while each day before you start back at work so that she get used to it. She'll be content in there with her bed, pee-pad, water, toys etc. and will probably sleep while you are out at work :) xxx |
Welcome! My Kimbo just turned 12 weeks old on Saturday and weighs 2.2lbs. I'm going back to work in August after having the summer off also. I'm able to come home on my lunch break, and I'm praying that he takes the transition well. Sorry, I don't know anything about that kind of knee situation. Did she have any visible symptoms that i can look for in my baby? |
Hi and Welcome! :wave4: |
W*e*l*c*o*m*e! |
Congrats ! Welcome to YT, and congrats on yr furbaby, yr life will nerve b the same , just better lol. I would do the x-pen, I put Miley and max in there while I was home during the day doing house work , a few hours at a time to get them use to it , and it works, when I need to go out. I first stared with Miley when I got her and a yr later I did the same with max. She will be fine, she may cry at the first u can talk to her to calm, her down but don't take her out until she spent time in there. Good Luck! bark@ulater!!!! manina, miley:aimeeyork, max:aimeeyork |

Congrats on your first yorkie and welcome to YT! It is so addicting and you will make so many friends- these are amazing little dogs! I cant imagine my life without them! I am not sure about the floating knee but I am sure someone can give some light on that. As far as separation anxiety, it is hard especially at her age. You want her to be socialized and then be okay when you are working. I would make some trips with her and some without to get her used to being home alone and to get her out. I would also try using an x pen. I leave the radio or TV on for my two when I am gone because something is always on here. Anyways best of luck and cant wait to learn more! |
Welcome to you and Chloe! I know you will enjoy learning and sharing here! You have already gotten an answer about the "floating knee." You can do a google search to learn about Luxating Patella -- but remember as Mardelin said, many puppies have a little looseness at first. It may tighten up and never present a problem. But you want to keep an eye on it and maybe take a little extra care at not letting her jump up and down from furniture. A step stool, ramp, or those little stairs can save a lot of wear and tear on knees and backs. As for going back to work -- I agree with getting an x-pen or one of the plastic play yards (that is what I have). That helps keep them safe as well as giving them a better sense of security. If they have the run of the house, they feel they have to protect the whole house. They are also more inclined to make messes if they have more room to get away from the mess. She will probably adapt okay to her time away from you and will undoubtedly greet you daily like she never thought she would see you again. They definately make a homecoming warm! Make sure she has some safe toys, a good supply of food and water, her bed with a blanket for nesting, a pee pad or two for business and she should be fine in her xpen or play yard. Some even close them in a small room like a laundry area or kitchen. I would not give the run of the house until she is completely house trained and comfortable being left alone. If she does have problems being left alone, there is always doggy daycare. :) :welcome4: |
Thank you Thank you all for all the replys. I feel so welcome and am very glad I signed up for YT. Everyone is very helpful. |
