pee-poo commands Just wondering.... do you guys use 2 separate commands for pee and poop or just one like "go potty" ????? do they know the difference? |
Fiona does both on command! I tell her to "go squat" and she will pee, and then I'll say " go poopies" and she will go. You ONLY want to say the command word(s) when they are in the actual act of doing something, you DON'T want to say the word(s) before, or after they do it. You also want to make sure you reward them as soon as they do something for you! If you are crate training, if your outside for about 10-15 min and they do one over the other, put them in the crate for another 5-10min and try it again. I find that these dogs are very smart, and Fiona caught on pretty quick! |
Hi Yes I have always used "Quickies" for a No. 1 and "Duties" for a no. 2...Always ued seperate words..never failed me with any of my Yorkies . Even if they are doing it still keep saying a word till they have finished...This gets instilled in them .. Good Luck.. Chrisann x |
I use "potty" for both, but I think to Thor it just means "pee". I feel like during potty training, stealth pees are a big problem, not poops. The dog actually has to squat for pooping, and usually does it on a regular schedule, so it's easier to catch him and move him if he's in the wrong area. Then again, I use potty pads, so getting him to poop right away is not an issue for me. If I tell him to "potty", it's usually that I want him to empty himself out before he plays so he's not tempted to mark. |
As long as you are consistent they will get it. Mine practically understand sentences, because they know our routine. They know if I tell them to "go potty" to means to pee, but they also know what I mean when I say "hurry up" or "Get back out there and poop too!" ;) (Because I come outside, stand on the porch, and point to the yard LOL!) |

"stealth pees" I like that!:D sometimes Rosie does her pee but it's a long wait for her poop....especially early in the morning rain!!! |

Bella is trained to go potty indoors. So she goes to poop on her own schedule. But if I know we are about to go shopping or to visit friends I tell her to "go tee-dom for mommy" and she tends to go on command. :) |
My command is "better go now"say it in a loud happy voice they go nuts running to the door to go do their business. |
Its "go potty" for pee and "go poop" for poop 'round here. Sometimes Bailey will get in such a hurry to come back inside to get her treat, that she forgets to go poop - so the phrase has come in handy. She knows!! |
We use "do your stuff" for both. We started out using it when they were in the actual act as suggested. I have kept them on pads as well and have one in their pen and in the sunroom. At night I try to get them to use the one in the sunroom so I will let them out their and tell them to "do your stuff" and they will and come back in or run around for a few minutes in there. |

Rosie is now 4 months. I have keeping a schedule of her pee and poo and feed schedule for the past 17 weeks. Can't see a pattern yet. She had poop before bedtime last night but there was poop in her crate this morning. don't know if from this morning or during night???? She feeds 2x per day, morning around 7am and evening around 5:30pm. It's always stressful waiting for the poop! make the schedule for past 5 weeks (that's how long we've had her), just seems like 17! |
I just always said "go potty" for both. |
Well, LOL I think I have bragging rights..........Lexi just did it herself. We are so proud of her from day 1 we put down pee pads and said "go potty" she goes pee pee and poopie all on her own. She never had an accident and will find a pee pad no matter where you put it...probably even on the ceiling...LOL it sure makes life easy when we go away or to someones house. She was only 8 weeks old when we got her...she's so smart:D Hugs Cheryl & Lexi:aimeeyork |
Go Potty Command We use "Go Potty Bella" for both. She always pees first and then we just say "go potty" again and she poops. She only poops if she has to. But, she almost always "pees" when we say "go potty". Good luck, patience, repetition and edible rewards are the key! |
