What will my Yorkie's adult size be? Hey Everyone, I was just wondering but would anyone here know if the parent's size would have any effect to how big your dog would be as an adult? My dog is 2lbs at 9 weeks. The mom is 6.5lbs. Dad is shy over 3lbs. Any ideas? Does heavier parent dominant or does the weight average from both parents? Thanks |
to be honest, it is really hard to tell what your pups true adult weight will be.. the "general" rule is to multiply the pups weight by 3 at 8 weeks and by 2 at 12 weeks and that will give you an "estimate" so your pup will be around 6 pounds..however that isnt always accurate.. my "little" guy... came from 4 pound parents and at 10 months old (today.. :)) he is a whopping 9 pounds...:) |
Genetics goes further back than just the parents. General rule of thumb is doubling the 12 week weight, but that is only a guessestimate |
Zena is 8 months old and 7.5 pounds. Her parents are 6.2 and 6.5 pounds. She was the runt of the litter and is larger than her parents and siblings. Go figure! |
