Sadie, i've wanted to name a yorkie Sadie since forever!!! |

I hope you don't think I jumped on you at all, I don't mean to be rude or anything but I thought I was making a good choice and I don't regret buying my dog but I do regret not finding this site and getting all the important information. Not every story has a bad ending but many do and right now you are only focused on getting your puppy and being happy yes that is what everyone hopes for. I can't tell you how much money I spent on my dog in only about 8-9 short months. For the money I spent I could of easily bought a nice 1,500$ puppy from a great breeder and not had to spend an extra cent on emergency vet costs, are you ready for this possibility? I sure wasn't. I had to borrow money, take time off work to stay home with her and lots of vet visits. Lots of people want you to realize that this may be what you are heading for. Please don't think we are trying to hurt you, we really aren't. I wish you the best and pray that your puppy stay healthy and not have any issues. It is very heartbreaking. I do think socializing your pup with your aunts pup would be great as much as possible but you won't be able to til she is done all her shots which will put her at about what, 14 weeks or more? The critical weeks will have been long gone and missed. Most puppies do okay leaving earlier, but the toy breeds need their mommies longer and most vets don't have LOTS and LOTS of experience in certain breeds, especially toy breeds and they may go off information they know may be true with a different breed since they have dealt with. I got my dog from Missouri and if you already know that is the Puppymill state! |
that female HAS to be Sadie's sister, and they won't give you the three week old ones, they're not ready yet!! i've seen pictures of them though, they are adorable... u know something?? Marvin mentioned he buys the moms and dads for 1000 or more, wonder where he gets them from?? |

really, Missouri is the puppy mill state? wow!! that's where i live, that's sad, well at least i can be sure this isn't a puppy mill, he might be a backyard breeder and a little uneducated and not super professional, but this guy's trying, he really loves his puppies and i think he just wants to make people happy, even if they aren't always the best parents and even if this breeder doesn't seem to know the "better" way to raise puppies, i really think he's just a simple old feller, trying to make people smile by giving them a puppy that he raised in his home and loved and he's too darn nice to charge them lots of money...i dunno i might be way off, but i can't help but feel like i'm right about this guy... he has nothing to gain really by selling me a pup for so cheap and cheating me, i'd take him to court if the vets tell me she's sick right off the bat, and he wasn't willing to give me my money back...speaking of which, i am taking her to the vet the first chance i get...and i'm going to make him do a vet check too!! he was more than happy to!! and i don't know if i told you this, but the pup is registered with APRI (what's the difference between APRI and AKC anybody??) and Marvin's wife Linda (so sweet on the phone) she says they've been having a vet come out and check things over and they're getting licensed soon, (what does licensing in MO require)?? Thanks to those who will help answer these questions!! |

And when I spoke with the puppymillers who bred my dog they were EXTREMELY nice as well! but who cares how "nice" they are, they are doing something wrong and illegal! These guys were licensed in Missouri as well and it sure doesn't mean much since they were able to breed tons of yorkies and other breeds in kennels that were born with lots of issues and brought lots of heartache for CHEAP! as well! |

I am sure he's a nice elderly man but have his females and males been tested for LP or other inherited genetic faults? These are the things you have to worry about from breeder's like this as well as pet store pups. You won't know until the problem arises then it's too late. He probably doesn't know himself what the above are. Take him to court, honey you don't have money for a more expensive pup where are you going to get $ to fight him in city hall? It's your choice just wanted to cover all the basis with you. Good luck, |

keeping dogs in a kennel, seperates mother from litter before 8 weeks, breeds on every heat, breeding more than 2 breeds. Remember these monsters dont have horns they look like everyone else and e are friendly and outgoing but it doesnt make what their doing right. Your 400 dollar puppy may be more than likely costing you thousands in the long run. |

I do think it is best to wait to get the pup at 10-12 weeks however I got mine at 6 and 8 weeks. They havent had any health problems and besides barking they are well behaved. I just wanted to give you a little encouragement that sometimes it works out okay. I do understand everyone concerns though and dont think they are bashing you they just want you to make the best decision you can. Good luck |
Not a puppy mill to me there is a difference between a puppy mill, where hundreds or even thousands of pups are in metal cages living in their own crap and being mistreated, underfed, and not loved and a backyard or "hobby" breeder, who has only a few dogs, keeps the soon to be moms in the house nearby, and plays with all his puppies daily running around in the yard/house with them and loving on them, bathing them, and talking sweetly to them. The guy may not be the best breeder in the world, and he may not have all the right ideas down about raising pups, but he's not running a puppy mill. I will agree that he's a backyard breeder, and that he probably should do things differently, but we're going to trust it this time and see how it goes, if we get screwed, you can all say a big fat "I told you so" and i'll feel like a complete dunce, but let's all hope for Sadie's sake, and mine, that everything works out great, she's healthy and wonderful, and i have the experience of owning and loving a yorkie and making this the best thing to come into my life. On that note, i'm going to retire from this thread, other than to ask more "How To" questions. Feel free to offer any advice on raising puppies and other things like that!! |

Your happiness in getting a new puppy isn't what is most important here. The health and well being of that puppy is. To purposely make the wrong decision is irresponsible. I hope that you have a Savings account with a few thousand dollars in it for the care of your puppy. I told you that I got my Yorkie at 7 weeks of age. Within the first 2 months of owning her, I had to fork out $6000 in vet costs, immunizations, and her spay. Being a responsible pet owner is alot more than just enjoying raising a puppy. Getting a puppy at such an early age is just setting yourself up for problems. But hey, we've all done what we can to help you with your decision by sharing our information and experiences with you. If I were you, I'd reconsider your decision and we can all help you find a puppy from a reputable breeder. :) |

Has anyone ever seen this place in person? I would love to know what their 'kennels' are like with nine different breeds. And how many dogs would they have to have for this many breeds? This isn't just some hobby breeder, or even a BYB!! This sounds like a much bigger operation. |

It's just a sad situation and he will keep doing this kind of thing as long as there are people out there to pay him the money and don't do their research. I truely hope that your puppy is healthy. I hope that you do have some money saved up in the event that she gets coccida or something of that nature. I would make sure that you have some baby wipes and nutrical on hand. Sometimes they mess their bottoms up when trying to go to the bathroom. If she's stressed, and you see any mucus in her poop when you get her home, take her to the vet immediately. I know from experience when I almost lost Ellie when she was so young. To this day, I have to feed her a special diet because her stomach is so sensitive. I wouldn't suggest any training treats from Petsmart either. I wish you and Sadie the best. |
surprised normally a good breeder would not send her babies away that soon they need time to be socialized and also watched for development and just it is to soon to leave her mommy 8 weeks is the normal even though i wait 12 weeks but thats only because I have extra small babies and i want them to get alittle more size on them and make sure they are ready to leave and go to their new family i watch how they interact with each other and alone so i am not saying anything negative but this is something to think about ,no breeder should be in that much of a rush to place a baby it seems a little questionable goodluck |

I think good advice was given to you. I can say that I can commend where your heart is....heck, I wish I could save all the thousands of puppies in puppy mills all over the U.S. but I can't & won't. The problem is the ones who do that, go into purchasing a puppy from such circumstances, then later on, as the puppy grows older & starts exhibiting developmental problems, behavioral problems, high vet bills, etc., the owner then starts taking it out on the puppy. Not saying this is always the case, but often. As long as you know what you're getting into, go for it. I wish you the best of luck! |
Dog You can save a dog from a puppymill situation you might be buying a very sick dog but it is easier to save one that is at a shelter why dont you adopt a dog from a shelter if you cant afford one with your budget their are lots of dogs that needs homes i feel like every dog has his day and puppymill and what happens in the dark will surface |
Rachel, I am not going to criticize you. I want Sadie to be healthy and happy. That is what is most important here. I know you said that money is an issue and you want a healthy pup but have you considered buying am older Yorkie? I bought Niyah from a girl on YT and she is 2 yrs, healthy and has up to date shots. I paid less than a pup costs and I really love that she is older. I don't have to go through the puppy stage and I know her personality. I know you made your mind up and I respect it. I wouldn't want someone to tell me where to buy my dog but I also would know from looking at this kennel that it is a little suspicious. I don't how anyone can afford to care for this many breeds and pups on top of that. I know we don't know what their money situation is but I would suspect it would cost thousands a year to take care of these many breeds. I am disppointed to hear they keep the parents in a kennel even if they play with them and give them attention. I can't imagine keeping Niyah in a kennel all the time. I am just trying to understand why they don't keep the parents in the house all the time. They are suppose to be their pets. Not a thing. Again, I am not here to condemn your decision. Just wanted to know if you thought about an older dog. Please keep in touch and let us know how she does. Who knows. Maybe you will prove everyone wrong. |
k be careful |

I'd worry more about keeping her healthy at this age. |
Wishing you the best with your new puppy, it is hard when you want a yorkie and you want it now. Know that feeling well. I breed on a small basis, and I would like to say 6 wks is very young to take a pup away from the litter. But this does not mean it could not work. Keep plenty of NUTRI- CAL on hand please. Mine are not going anyplace until 12 wks, too smal too young. I know you will love your baby and watch over her so very good. Note of interest, a puppy mill will never let you see the kennels where they keep the dogs. They show you only the healthy ones in the front, not the back area. I have seen many and cry when I do. I use to do rescue of yorkies. Let us know how things go for you, and lots of kisses and hugs to the new baby. |
