Lil Bit is doing great!!! Hi, I just wanted to let everybody know that "Lil Bit" ( she finally has a name) is doing great......I originally posted with "potential puppy.....problems???" I got her nearly 2 weeks ago...(Feb 4th) ...she was 3 months old and weighed one pound 1 ounce. I took her to the vet the next day she weighed 1 pound 2 ounces (!!!) and got a clean bill of health (except for the somewhat large 'molea'...'soft-spot'). We decided she had been fed poor quality food with WAY TOO MUCH water added.....we changed her food and after a brief episode of runny poops she is now an eating machine!!! Now she will stand at my feet yapping and twirling waiting for her food. She had runny eyes and nose ...I took her back to the vet one week later (her face smelled AWFUL!!!)...eye infection. Her weight was up to 1 pound 4 (!!!) ounces....she was started on amixicillin and eye ointment. She takes her medicine from the dropper like a big girl and lets me easily put the ointment in her eyes...(I am a pediatric nurse...this is a BIG DEAL to me!!). The vet is impressed with how well she is doing. I will be forever concerned about her small size and GREATLY restrict her contact with others and activities.....but she is full of energy!!! She pees and poops on the paper over 50% of the time and sleeps soundly all night. This tiny little dog will boldly go up and snatch a chewy bone from my nearly 5 pound chihuahua.....but still has not made friends with my aging (13 yr old) greyhound....but I think the 'old racer' is just tired and wants to take a nap. Thanks again and again for all the advice and help. You all are the smartest people in the world......I love reading all your stories and advice to others...I have come to really love many of you....not just about all the yorkie talk but also your love and caring and concern.....Glad to be a part of this group!!!! I have posted a question about turning 50 years old on the "Off Topic Discussion"..hope many of you will visit there and share your thoughts!!!! Thanks a million...........~debi s.~ |
Hi Debi! So glad yur baby is recovering! Nice to see another nurse on here, I was a peds nurse for 5 yrs before raising my doggies and children. "Arent you the sweetest! " |
That is such good news!! I am so happy for you and for Lil Bit:D Love that name by the way...give her lots of tlc...she deserves! |
Good job, Debi!!! So glad to hear Lil Bit is doing so well! Our Toto was about that age when we brought her home and weighed 1 1/2 lb. We were just terrified of her! We have been so fortunate that she has been healthy! I still try to get her to the vet about every month or so ... more for me than her! :) Our vet and breeder kept telling us she would never weigh 3 lbs. And it looked like they were right! She just stayed so very tiny ... until last summer. She had become a very finicky eater ... I began cooking for her and before I knew it, she tipped the scales at 4 1/2 lbs.!! Still very healthy ... but too "pudgy" for her tiny frame! She is now on a "tough love" diet ... strictly dog food in a prescribed quantity and we are sticking with it! She has already lost about 7 oz. in about 2-3 weeks and as soon as I can find a way to get more exercise for her I think she will be a lot better! After we overcame a few obsticles ... potty training .. providing pillows, steps, etc. for her to have safe ways up and down to beds & sofas ... separation anxiety and anything else that makes her sad or uncomfortable ... we enjoy her more than anything else in our lives!! Sounds like your Lil Bit and Toto are about the same ... now if we can find out how NOT to spoil them! Heck ... that's half the fun!! ;) |
I just LOVE good news about Yorkie babies! Soooooo glad to hear that Lil Bit is happy and healthy and rarin' to go! |
It's so good to hear happy ending stories! Obviously you took great care of Lil Bit and I'm so glad she's doing well. :) |
It is such good news to hear that Lil Bit is doing so well. There are such many sad stories about the real tiny one's and it warms my heart to hear good news about them. It is so true that these little tiny Yorkies can have a healthy happy life. :p I am actually waiting for a tiny one myself. Not sure when I will have her but I am waiting for that special day to come. Gosh, I even have her name picked out. LOL :p It might take me years but I will find her. I am actually wanting a female 4-5 months of age. I am NOT a believer that a person must adopt their little pup at a real young age to be able to bond. I personally feel you can bond with a dog/pup at any age. Look at those who are in the market for "show" Yorkies. Some weight until the pup is 6 months to a year of age to verify the size, composition, etc on the Yorkie and I bet none of them had any issues "bonding" with their loved Yorkie. ;) It was very nice of you to give such wonderful compliments towards the people on this forum. I think it's a pretty awesome forum myself! :D Tell Lil Bit to keep up the good work and Schatzie sends her puppy kisses. :p |
