May be a grandma
 
Tried to keep my dogs apart as you suggested, but they are smart. The male tore the diaper off of the female and took her to another room and they locked up. Now just waiting. Is it like human pregnancy it only takes one time?

I am sorry to say this.. but first, YES it only takes one time.. poor baby. 11 lbs is TOO large for a 6 1/2 lb girl. I wouldn't worry about a LARGE litter, I would be more worried about puppies too large for her to have. If you didn't want to lose her, then why would you put her in that position? I am sorry, but TRYING isn't good enough.

I agree...Maybe you should have the preg. terminated if she is, I would for the sake of my girl!

:thumbup: I agree.

You need to contact your vet asap about terminating the pregnancy now by having her spayed. Otherwise she could very likely die trying to carry and deliver puppies from a male twice her size.

Using this as your Title: :giftbox: May be a Grandma, tells me you are not taking this nearly as serious as it may be for your poor little girl. There are so many things that can go wrong when you do everything right in breeding let alone allowing non-standard dogs to breed with a male almost twice as big as the female. This is just asking to lose your female. I know you don't really want that!

Please follow the advice given to contact a vet immediately and get an emergency spay scheduled. When you have an unaltered male and female on the premises, you have to just assume a pregnancy WILL happen if you do not spay/neuter, or remove one from the property. They are smart and persistent. If we had the will of a male dog after a girl in heat, we could cure cancer, find Osama, and bring about world peace all in one day. Spay, neuter, or remove one from the property! That should be a chant that every owner of unaltered dogs that should not be bred repeats every morning!

I am curious as to why one was not fixed if you didn't want them to breed? Were you planning on breeding them eventually and that is why?

I am not condemning you. If you do want the pregnancy then you might need to save up for a c-section. I am not a breeder of Yorkies nor do I want to but I have learned a lot from others posting on this issue.

Please let us know what happens. We are all worried about the dog.

Who knows, maybe she will have smaller puppies. I guess it depends on what is in her bloodline.

Let me tell you my little story. My Misty, whom I didn't know was in heat got pregnant by my friend's little boy Spitfire. Spitty weighed about 6 lbs and Misty, who was only 16 months old, weighed maybe 4 pounds. Right after it happened, I called my vet. I asked if she wasn't too young, his remark she should not have gotten pregnant when she was under 2 yrs but since he knew her mom and dad, he thought that it would be ok. I also asked about the size difference. My vet recommended that if I wanted the puppy he needed to check her once a week starting at week 4 and I should be prepared for a C-Section.

She did not have a C-section, but quickly delivered on her own a very small little boy. I took both her and the puppy to the vet the next morning and he pronounced them to be in great shape.

I can't and won't tell you what to do. You need to talk to your vet, but make sure that the vet is very knowledgeable in small dogs. Follow his recommendations, not mine.
