Should you let puppy bite hand being that it could become a bad habit? Or would he just stop as he gets out of teething |
Sometimes they stop after they are done teething and sometimes not. So its probably best to not let him get in the habit of doing it |
No definitely don't let him bite. |
I always just gave them something else to chew on besides my hand. They will learn. I try to say "no" then I give a chew toy and say "good boy" |
thats a bad idea my boyfriend use to let Denzel bite his hand when he was just a lil pup and as he got a little older when my boyfriend would try and pet him. Denzel thought my boyfriend was giving him the ok to bite his hands we had to break that habit quick. so definitely not a good idea |
Not a good idea. I've owned plenty of dogs (not Yorkies yet) and I have 3 cats. DH let one of the cats bite him all the time when it was a kitten and not he bites ALL the time. It's not a good idea for either puppies or kittens (or horses for that matter, b/c I had a biter horse one time) to get into this habit. It can be broken, but it takes a LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG time. |
Don't let him get away with this behavior. Try replacing his bitting with an item he's suppose to be chewing on. |
Give him a favorite toy or chew... |
I read in a yorkie book to say "no teeth" when they bite. Lucy will do this growly noise and act all tough like she's totally kicking my butt but not biting me. Then she'll give me the odd bite. As soon as I say no teeth she stops. A couple times she's gotten really worked up and I just lift her in the air or put her on her back so she knows who's boss. She's only 3.4 lbs but acts like she's 100lbs sometimes. |
We play with ours with toys- we didnt want them to think that it is okay to bite at us. |
We learned this lesson the hard way. When Kimbo came home, my 15 and 11 year old sons thought it was so fun to play fight with him. That is until a few weeks went by and his bite started to hurt on their ears and toes. from day one, I never let him bite me (because I'm a fraidy cat) and instead would keep a toy near to re-direct him. All of a sudden my boys were demanding to know why Kimbo wouldn't try to bite me, but all he had to do was smell them coming and would go into baby Kujo mode! He learned that biting them was fun. Now, the boys know that play can never include biting. Kimbo eventually got the hint. When he would start attacking, they told him NO, got up on the couch, and ignored him. |
