Am I overreacting? So as some of you may know my DH brought home a now, 12 week old yorkie/chihuahua mix ( don't want to get my head bit off for calling him a chorkie/designer breed LoL :p) Well he is practically pad trained already, meaning he goes to the pad already on his own to potty!!! I am AMAZED!! He also learned how to sit in like 5 minutes. My DH sees that the new pup is so young and already knows all this and he calls Marley dumb and tells her that Colt is bette than her just joking but it hurts my feelings. I yell at him and tell him not to say stuff like that. I told him that Marley didn't have great beginings like Colt did. She was in a pet store in a cage where she pooped and peed for 7 1/2 months before we got her here in Japan. Colt is lucky to learn at such a young age. I know my hubby is joking but everytime Colt goes on the pad my DH says this crap. I know it might sound dumb but in the back of my mind I am worried if she understands him! I know , I know , I am crazy for thinking that. I just want him to treat them equally. He babies her all the time though still. She still sleeps with us and, don't tell anyone bc he would kill me LoL..... he wakes up and grabs her from the middle of the bed and cuddles her for about 5 minutes after the alarm goes off in the morning before getting out of bed :p Anyways... I just think she knows that my DH is talking badly to her. She has been getting better though. She was pad trained and trained to go outside b4 we got the new pup. Then she started to have accidents. They are slowly decreasing. Am I over reacting to how he is talking to her? Even though he changes his tune at bedtime? lol |
Overreacting Even if your dog does not understand the words, I am sure the feelings come through. Everything said should be kept upbeat and happy so that the dog gets good vibs. Shame on DH. |
I don't think your over reacting. You're right, Marley didn't get the early learning Colt is getting so that's not fair to call her names like that. Plus, I too think they understand. I KNOW Curly does cuz even if I don't raise my voice, when I say "naughty girl" she puts her ears down and goes under the bed to sulk. So, if they understand "sit, stay, roll over, naughty, good, etc." why wouldn't they understand "stupid"? Tell hubs to cool out and be nice!:) |
The dogs feed off of your energy, and if DH is making you upset when he talks about Marley she will understand, esp if she always notices that you get upset and hears her name in the same sentence. I would politely ask him to stop teasing. If he loves you, and of course he does, then he will understand that it bothers you and he should stop. But then again, like I've said before, men are harder to train than dogs. :p |
I can understand your frustration. I agree that they feed off our energy, so just tell him that it really does bother you. Good luck! |
