weight question hi everyone just a quick question At 8 weeks old my yorkie weighed 1.2 pounds She had her first trip to the vet this morning and she is now 1.8 pounds so she gained a whole 10 ounces in 2 weeks! Is this an ok weight gain? The breeder told me she would be a very small adult yorkie:aimeeyork |
Welcome to YT.... |
She is doing fine. One way to guesstimate the adult weight of a Yorkie pup is to triple the 8 week weight or double the 12 week weight. So, you little one is projecting to be somewhere around the 3.6 pound range. It is all just educated guessing though. Many things can alter the weight outcome. Just love every little ounce of her! :) |
here is the weight chart. Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart |
Mine stopped growing about one year. I'm glad your baby is gaining weight. This is very good news. |
The general guide is to triple the weight at 8 wks and to double it at 12. The weight chart was pretty accurate in my Pixie's case (she's 3lbs) but it's not always accurate for everyone. I'm guessing your yorkie will be no more than about 4lbs full grown...but you can never be 100% sure!;) |
That's what my Missy weighed at 8 weeks of age. She has stopped growing now and is 3 lbs 10 ozs. |
Lillie weighed the same thing at 8 weeks..she is now 3 yrs old and just over 4 1/2 lbs. |

That weight gain is definitely normal, healthy, and like another poster said, good news. They grow very fast during the first few months and then slowly taper off. :p |
