Puppy Sleeping Pattern Maddie is a little over 2 and a half months old. How long will it be until I can get 8 STRAIGHT hours of sleep with her?! She is up about every 3 hours and needs to pee and I am trying to do outdoor training only so I get up and take her outside. I have a pee pad down just in case I don't wake up when she does and she will use that if I can't get her out. Just wondering how much puppies sleep and when it becomes a more predictable pattern... |
ohhhh a while!. you figure 2 1/2 months is what?10 weeks? Give it another 3 or 4 months. Would you expect a 10 week old baby to sleep through the night? No. And a yorkie puppie has a tiny bladder and needs to go out and potty. You are doing the way for her, taking her out every few hours. Your hard work will pay off. Just hang in there :D |
Thanks for the encouragement! I knew that she would be a lot of hard work and some loss of sleep, but she is TOTALLY worth it! I stinkin love her! |
Maddiepie - I'm with you on this one - our little ones are the same age and we are getting up in the night also. Baxter is in a crate next to me during the night and I know I am blessed that he whimpers during the night to go potty. He potties and goes right back to sleep - until 3-4 hours later. I guess we can find comfort that we are not alone - I will think of you getting up with Maddie as I gaze at the stars tomorrow morning at 2 a.m.! :) |
Awe, thanks! It helps knowing that you are not alone!! |
I think it depends on their eating habits too. I try to have "quiet time" with Stella for an hour or so before bed so that she calms down and isn't playing/drinking a lot so that we can make it a little longer through the night. She is 5 1/2 months old now and, I know she prefers pottying outside to her puppy pad. She'll make it from about 11/12 at night 'til about 6:30, at which point she'll start whining. If I don't wake up, she'll use her puppy pad, but if I do wake up, it's a scramble to get her harness & leash on and run outside. Hope that helps! |
I feel your pain. Luckily Roxy is pee pad trained. The good news is that she just started making it through the night without peeing!!! That is a good thing!!! Roxy is all over the place at night. We were crate training her but she couldnt go all night and would end up soaked in pee in the morning so now we leave the crate door open with a puppy pad but she is still all over my room. I would put her in my bed but I need to buy stairs or a ramp first. We already had one jumping accident. We do not need more! |
I totally lucked out when I brought Lucy home. The first night I had her I was expecting to be up all night listening to her cry. But I put her in her bed and went to sleep, no crying-at all. I actually got up out of bed several times that night to make sure she was still alive. I'd turn the light on and she'd just look at me from her bed. :) She's still great at night and she's almost 6 months. Good luck. I hope your little one settles in soon. |
