Looking at Morkies..... I was just browsing the Massachusetts Morkie Breeders....I have 2 yorkies right now but think that the Morkies are just adorable!! I'm JUST LOOKING!! Could somebody please explain to me why these mixed pups cost more (and are NOT registered or registered with something I have never heard of before) than what I paid for my AKC registered yorkies? I was going to e-mail them and ask tons of questions. I know all about brokers, mills, BYB's and scams...I just don't understand why they ask such ridiculous prices for these puppies. |
I don't understand why they cost more either... I think they are adorable but I don't think they are any cuter than pure Yorkies or Malteses. |
around here they are about $400-500. which is about 1/2 what Yorkies cost, I thought that is why some many wanted them because they was cheaper. What prices are you looking at? |
They charge that much because people will pay the price. I'm sorry but to me... maybe I am just old school but I would have a problem paying for what I know as a "mutt". I too, think they are adorable but wouldn't pay for one. I grew up knowing that if you want a purebred you pay, if you just want a mixed dog... they are usually free. I know times are changing but I don't know if I could convince myself to pay.. besides, to me.. I think it is a shame to breed outside the breed. Maltese should be bred with Maltese, Yorkies with yorkies. JMO... |

Actually it's something I've been thinking about for a while...I would like to add another to the family someday...(I already have 2 yorkie girls)...I'm not in the market right now just looking...however....! if one just HAPPEN to come running up to my door I would CERTAINLY let them in!!:p The 400-500 range sounds like a reasonable price for a mix but...1495.00:eek: that's just insane when I paid not much more than that for my 2nd yorkie. And to the other poster...I think they are ALL adorable...matter of fact I have seen some morkies that look just like a yorkie.. thanks for the replies! |
because people don't bother to research breeds and know what they are doing when they are buying a dog. they buy something because its cute. i personally think it should be illegal to purposely cross-breed dogs for money when there are so many cute muts that need rescued. just my opinion. i would encourage you, as a yorkie lover, not to encourage this practice either by buying one. it degrades our beautiful breed to insinuate something could make it better by cross-breeding. |

Absolutely....why would one promote this type of breeding, and pay that much for a dog that may have not been properly breed and have genetic defects from both breeds.....especially since both these breeds have a greater possibility of Liver Shunt. |

That's exactly what I meant... I don't think any one of the breeds (yorkie, maltese or mixed) is cuter than the other. They are all precious. |
i agree with you, there are enough lonely homeless babies in the world to add to the mixed population |
Whew... I thought I might get a "talking to" after I posted. I tend to get going when it comes to mixing breeds.. I'm glad to see I am not the only one. I think all puppies are cute but in the end..but the people mixing breeds are why we have so many being put down everyday. This is a big enough problem...why add to it? Its careless breeding in my eyes. |

I also believe a morkie can tried to be sold at a higher price because their is a high demand for them > a new term "designer breed" Same thing as mixed breed IMO . I would not ever pay thousands of dollars for a mutt either . Their are too many in shelters everywhere, and even pure breds are in shelters . So sad. Morkies are cute , however , still a mixed breed , breeders can take advantage of those who want a cute puppy . |
