"He kinda looks blue" Last night I took Tobie over to my parent's house and it was the first time my sister had seen him since he got his first haircut. She was like, "Why does his color look different?" ... I told her that Yorkie's hair usually changes as they get older and when he got his hair cut, most of the black hair was cut off. Then she goes, "he kinda looks blue". LOL. I told her that's what they call it but I thought it was funny because I never understood that. Maybe I'm a bit color blind but I never see blue. Yorkies always look silver or gray to me but I guess now I understand why they call it that! :p |
Even though Reesie's buddy Cindy isn't a Yorkie, I thought I'd comment on this. We had to have her buzzed again this year because her undercoat never seems to dry after she's been swimming. I noticed last year that areas where she normally has black fur the skin had a blue tint, and under the white fur the skin was pink. Other than it being a worthless comment, that's all I can tell you. |
Thank you, but I wasn't really asking a question. LOL.. I was just telling a story about how I didn't understand why they called the coloring blue bc to me it looks gray or silver. Then my sister, who knows nothing about Yorkies, thought that his hair looked kinda blue. I was just saying that I now understand why they call it that... I don't see the blue color but apparently other people do. |
Yeah, I know what you are talking about! The blue color that people say is also silver to me! LOL! Maybe we are color blind?? |

My grandmother had blue hair, and sometimes pink, and this was long before it was fashionable. That gray dye was something else. She seemed to like it because all the other senior women were sporting weird colors, too. Yorkies look silver-ish to me. |

Some really are silver instead of blue. In fact, many call their silver yorkies blue but they are just silver to me. The "blue" the standard talks about is a dark steel blue -- more a gun metal blue and it does have the blue tinge to it. The ones that are just plain silver/grey with no blue tinge, are not in standard and should not be called blue. If you want to know if a black coat will turn "blue" look at it in the sunlight. If the black coat has a little brownish reflection, it will probably just stay black and is a fault. If the black, has a bluish reflection, it will probably turn blue and is standard. |
