carriers.... How do you guys keep your babies in the carrier? Bambi gets so scared, and wants to jump out.... |
I have been relatively lucky with all 3 of my little ones as they are all good in a carrier. However, Twinkie actually did jump out of the carrier when I was carrying her in it. Make sure they are clipped in with a harness as Twinkie was clipped in when she tried to jump out - to teach her a lesson I let her dangle there for a second and now she has never done it again. Also, I always give them a small toy and line the carrier with a hand towel so it is more comforting. Hope this helps. :) |
I started getting mine used to the carrier very slowly. I put it on its side and would throw toys or treats in it. He would run in and dash back out. Then put him in it for just a few minutes with a ton of praise and a treat. Carried him around the house, telling him he was such a good boy. It took some time but he got used to it. I can't say that he loves it but he stays in it and he's quiet. Even though he doesn't try to jump out anymore, I do use carriers with a strap just in case. |
Awwww You jsut have to make it a happy friendly time. Leave it open on the floor and put treats and toys in there....Sweet Pea just sees me pick up the bag and she dances to get in it. I just open it and now she jumps right in. Gawd I smggel her in every where now! She goes grocrie shopping with me all the time. She did she a huge seeing eye dog in the store and that was the first peep out of her! LOL! My Sweet Pea............ |
Well, those are both great ideas!! I hope your little one learns to love his new carrier.. We put treats in and that seemed to make a big difference..:) |
We didn't really work at it. We just started young. We had just picked him up (he was 7 weeks old) and we had a 3 1/2 ride home that i figured I was going to have to hold him for. Well right after we picked him up we decided to stop and eat. We had a soft sided carrier about the size of a gym bag that my mom gave me with us. So we put him in that while we ran in to get food (we left the car running) when we came back he was asleep. And the little sweetie slept the whole way home. Now anytime we get ready to go he jumps in that carrier like he's I'm ready. I tried using a carrier from target that didn't close completely and he wasn't gonna stay in that one. The big thing with him is once you get him in it and zip it up he'll go right to sleep. But if he can get out he will. So my advice would be to get a carrier that closes completely so he can't jump out. |
If i know we will be going out that day i wait to give her her greenie. When i put her in i pet and talk to her then give her the greenie and zip the purse. I reassure her she's fine and put my hand in front of the netting so she can smell me and pick her up. She's usually fine unless she looses her greenie then she digs away at the inside till i find it for her. :) |

My chi cant stand carriers either and would do the same thing. Chloe likes carriers. But just the same I got a closed in carrier. It has mesh window so they can see out, but no openings for the head so that they cant jump out. I sell some on my website :) |
oh nice. thanks for all the replies. I just recieved my carrier this morning. Will try it soon (after he gets off his buster collar since he just got neutered.) |
