Traveling with Rylee Hello everyone! We are going on a trip by car to Tennessee, my vet gave me a perscription for Acepromazine Maleate, to help calm my Yorkie down while traveling. Has anyone used this and if so, how did it work for you and your pup? Just trying to feel safe with it. Rylee is precious to me and I don't want anything happening to him!!! Any advice? Has Rylee had problems with car travel before? We've never medicated our two little ones and they do well. I would get a crate that can be belted in and put her in it. Marcie was a wonderful traveler...Mo-Jo had some problems with nausea and vomiting the first 2 trips...after that no problem. I would make sure and not feed her a large meal just before you start your trip. Stop every 2 hours and exercise her, give her water, usually they will not eat very much, so don't worry about food. Tempt her with treats if you get worried about her not eating. |
My yorkie isn't the best traveller but we go to the cottage often. I give her homeopathic travel anxiety drops about an hour before we travel. It helps. I also put her on the front seat on top of a folded up blanket so she can curl up. I have a seat belt for her, she doesn't love it but it's the safest way to travel with a little one, especially when I'm travelling alone with her. The travel anxiety works and it isn't harmful. Definitely recommend it, it makes her a little sleepy and she doesn't shake or have accidents. The first trip without it wasn't fun. |
We've traveled over 20 hours in a car....and my girls did great!!! If you haven't traveled before with your little one...I would just watch and see how he does....rather than medicating him right away....he might surprise you and do GREAT!!! Just make sure to stop and do the potty break frequently!! :D |
chester does pretty well in the car, just never leave him unattended, they steal these liitle guys in a heart beat. I take all of chester regualr stuff whrn we travel, a couple of toys, treats, food and all that good stuff. We stop every 2-3 hrs just to stretch both of our legs, I have heard you can give ginger snaps for the upset tummys |
