Help! Urine on carpet..Potty training nightmare I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have been using the simple solutions urine remover when Harley has accidents. We have mostly hardwood floors with the exception of bedrooms where he has accidents sometimes. I have run into a little problem though. I thought Harley had been doing really good because he hasn't been using his pee pads much (I am pee pad and outdoor training him) so I've been thinking he has been doing great because he has been going when I take him outdoors. I'm thinking I'm about to get the potty training nipped in the bud...NOT!!! I just discovered that he has been using my formal dining room area rug as his potty. My question is...since he is pretty much using the whole rug is there something that I can use in my steam cleaner to remove the urine stains? Has anyone tried adding the simple solution to a steam cleaner? If so do you use it with the mixture of water? I'm not sure what to do here. I am so upset about this. This is a nice rug and would like to try to salvage it. If I can get it cleaned I plan on removing it until or if he gets potty trained. I am now at my wits end with this potty training thing! |
Try Natures Miracle. You can get it from Petsmart and it can be used in your steam cleaner. It works wonders!! It will tell you the mixture ratio on the bottle. |
I dont know what type of cleaner you have but bissel sells a pet stain and odor remover shampoo for steam cleaners. I get it at walmart. I use it all of the time. Even when there are no accidents just because. |
I know this is gonna sound weird but I've always just used plain vinegar in my steam cleaner and it works great (and less expensive) I just put it where the cleaner would go. I would test and make sure it's not gonna discolor your carpet. I use it on an off white and it's fine. |

I don't think vinegar "removes" urine, but it does neutralize odors...I guess the steam cleaner would put down the steam (w/the vinegar in it) and then the steam cleaner would suck it up, so the urine residue would actually be in the cleaner and you dump it out... I agree that Nature's Miracle seems to be the best, although I just had my living room/dining room carpet taken up and had laminate put down (thanks to Ms. Apple)...I don't let Apple in the bedrooms, because I know she can't be trusted  |
