4 months old??? he's just a baby and needs training. I'd start working on that before thinking of rehoming him or bringing him to the shelter.

I didn't realize he was only 4 mos. old!!! He just needs training, but because of the breed, you need to be consistent. Mine is 4 years old, and I have to be on top of his behavior at all times!

Shepherds are great dogs and if he is only a puppy this can be corrected. I would suggest talking with your vet about professional trainers with Shepherd experience. If you are willing to take the time to train he should grow into a great dog, but if you dont then I would look into finding him a home with people who have Shepherds and know what methods to use. My son is 23 and my daughter is 19. They always want this or that, and even when I know it's the wrong choice I give in to try to make them happy. That's why my son is so rotten. My son won't keep the crate in his room, because he says he doesn't have enough room, and that the dog keeps him up, so I have him in my room, and he wakes me up at 6 am to go out. Then my daughter comes out screaming, because when he's done he comes to the dog and barks which wakes her up. I'm not getting any cooperation with training him, and it's hard on me, because he sees my son as the alpha, and doesn't listen to me at all. I have to let him out by himself, and then I have to bring him in, and let the little ones out. I want to do what's best for him, and my own well being. I think I'm leaning toward a shepard rescue, because they know how to handle them, and can pick a family that would be better suited.

Bummer! It sounds like a rescue might be better in this case, because it doesn't sound like anyone in the house is excited about taking charge of him. FYI, you can always become the dog's alpha, particularly if you are in charge of feeding him. Make him Sit/Stay before you give him his food, and maybe give him food in installments so he has to obey you multiple times.
