When do they start changing color? Just wondering when they start turning the steel blue color?? I notice on their heads its starting to change... but their bodies are BLACK AS CAN BE! :D ROFL Also... when can I expect to be able to get their hair in little elastics on the top? ROFL |

Depends on how old they are and their background. You prefer them not to break color too early, those that do usually go very light. |
Thats great to know... They are 10.5 weeks right now (11 on sat). So right now I can see at the base of their scalp (right on the top of their heads) that its turning the blue.... NOTHING on their bodies. Their father was very silvery and the mother darker. Im not familiar with the yorkie breeds from babies (always had older dogs)... so just curious about this. Eventually we do want to show... so that too is interesting to know wether they are more showable lighter or darker? |

I prefer that a dog not to start to break color until they are between 9 and 10 months. You are more concerned with the dogs structure. |
Mine is 12 weeks and she's changing already. I have to giggle at her cause I swear it looks like she's going bald on top! I'd love her even if she really was LOL:D |

My breeder told me that yorkies true color is established when they are about two years old. Our Sophie's (8 mo.) color has been breaking rather slowly. Our Hazel (6 mo.) is breaking a little quicker. They are not from the same litter but share some of the same pedigree. Sophie & Hazels Mom :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

Yorkies reach maturity at approximately 2 years of age and their coat color is probably going to be what it is going to be at that age. However, you do have yorkies that go lighter as they age. Some go very light at a very young age. Some stay dark (usually soft coated yorkies). Females tend to go lighter with each heat cycle.. |
:rolleyes:That's a good question. Jada will be 2 next month her head is a dark gold and so are her legs but her body is still black is that normal or is it a defect. She is not for show Im just curious Quote:

Take a look at his feet....if they look a bit like bedroom slippers, if the coat doesn't shine and reflect light, most likely he isn't silk. |
