Skunks!!! Last night we went outside and had a little fire going and Ivy was sitting on my lap, Max next to me on the ground, when all of a sudden Max took off like a rocket. Ivy then jumped off my lap and went running after him now it's dark about 10:30 at night and I can't see but I can smell "a skunk"!! Now they come running back to me smelling oh so sweet :eek: So at 11:00 o'clock I'm giving them both baths!!! When they got up this morning what do they do but go running over to the place the skunk was (I can still smell where it was) I know they didn't learn a thing. How do you keep your dogs away from skunks, or how do you keep skunks out of your yard??? |
I dont know how to keep them out of the yard but if your dogs have skunk smell on them you can bathe them in tomato juice to get rid of the smell |
OH my!! I hope someone can help you with this. My friend has the same problem. They have one cupboard filled with Tomato Juice! they have not found the solution. If someone can tell you, I will pass it on to them!! |
You could try putting moth balls around your property line or I saw a web-site that offers some products for skunk control: skunk control, Skunk Control, SKUNK CONTROL, skunk removal, Skunk Removal, SKUNK REMOVAL, skunk odor control, Skunk Odor Control, SKUNK ODOR CONTROL, skunk, Skunk, SKUNK, skunk repellent, Skunk Repellent, SKUNK REPELLENT, scunk control, Scunk Control Only thing is I'd make sure all things you put around your yard are safe for your doggies! Maybe it won't come back knowing the dogs are going to run after now. |
While Scooter has not been skunked, my dogs growing up (standard poodles)had a bad habit of getting skunked. I think the skunks just enjoyed our back yard. While everyone thinks tomato juice works, trust me when I say that Downy works better. Everyone probably has it to do their laundry but it really works. Plus, cleaning up a bathroom/patio after using downy is SOOO much easier. While I can't tell you how to keep skunks out (we never figured it out), spray the area really good with water and the smell should go away. If it happens again, try using downy instead of the tomato juice....you may be surprised at how well it works. Good luck! |

This is currently the most effective de-skunking bath, but the peroxide can potentially bleach your animals fur. Lemon juice or white vinegar can be substituted for the peroxide, but they don't work as well. In the bathtub or a bucket, mix together: •1 gallon water •1 quart hydrogen peroxide ~3% solution •1 cup baking soda (For other uses of baking soda, read 75 extraordinary uses for baking soda) •1 good squirt of hand or dish soap The mixture will fizz. Use a sponge and lather it into the fur/skin taking care to avoid the ears and eyes. Let it sit for 10 minutes rinse and repeat. This does work! as I've had to use it on Zeke. I haven't found any way to keep skunks away though, except fence the yard lol. (they have a hard time opening the gate, ) |
