Agression to other dogs My Yorkie does not like other dogs. Some of it is that there are no other dogs around him. I tried him at a local Dog Day Care Camp but even there he did not do well. Yesterday, when I was on the porch drinking coffee, a woman was walking her two dogs on the street (I'm near the street) and Tiki just went up to them and started raising cane barking and acting like he was going to attack them. He ignored me when I tried to keep him on the porch. I'm worried that this may actually cause him to get into a fight with another dog. Also, I would like to get another Yorkie but don't feel that I can unless I can get him to the point where he is comfortable playing with another dog. He has had minimal training and my first thought is to redo the training and expand on it. Any other suggestions? Thanks. |
You need to be very careful with your little one being around big dogs as many Yorkies will attack first (could be fear aggression or the terrier in them) and will go after big dogs without a thought. Many have died because of this. They just do not see themselves as small. Moose my 4# rescue (has no teeth) has no fear of other dogs and luckily my other yorkies just ignore him but if I had a large dog he could easily turn and bite him in half. I would never introduce Moose to another dog without being in total control of the situation as Moose could easily attack and the other dog would react and bite back. I think you can get another Yorkie but it needs to be around his size. |
I don't think you should get another yorkie YET. Get your babys behavior under control first otherwise I think there will be more aggression directed at the pup, just my opinion:) |
Lexi was very aggresive toward other dogs too. She didn't like any dogs in her space LOL We had her spayed at 6 months and is now 8 months and doing much better with other dogs. Is your little one fixed? Not sure if that is what helped or maybe just getting a little older? We take her everywhere we go so she is getting more exposed I guess? Good luck maybe some play dates would help:confused: |
Tiki was neutered when he was younger; he 3 and half years old now. |

If you can find some training classes in your area Im sure that will help as he will meet many dogs and it will do him good. Don't give up hun . Sending hugs:hug: |
