Patience is the Key!
 

Hi,
Our little Bella is finally housebroken. It took time, consistency, and ALOT of patience and praise. We took her outside every 1 1/2 hours and always said the same thing, "Go Potty,Bella". She did well, but once we paired a treat with the praise she became instantly 99% successful. it was amazing! We break her treat drops into 1/3's so she gets a very little amount, but that seemed to do the trick.
Now she goes out the door, we say "go potty" and she does. We just hung in there and stayed consistent with exactly doing the same thing.
Your furbaby will get there.

Welcome to the group! :) It’s not going to come over night but consistency and praise is the key to success. Also, your lil one is still very young so it may take a lot longer for him. Good Luck

Wow, 6 weeks is young so my guess is it's going to take patience. They do have scented pads that encourage puppy piddling. Also, taking the pup out often and then rewarding with tiny pieces of meat like boiled chicken immediately after doing their business. Keep the pup in the crate when you can't watch him and remember the crate should have no room for moving around because they'll go in one spot and lay on the other side of it. The idea of crate training is the pup won't pee or poo where they lay (in their den) unless they're left there too long and just can't hold it. You have a super young pup so my guess is there won't be a long period of time in between potty breaks. Good luck!!!

SIX WEEKS! :eek: Oh my gosh! My babies are 6 1/2 weeks and I not even fully weaned yet! I just can't imagine. It's gonna take awhile for him to be completely potty trained. Limit his space and make sure he has an area to potty in. I am using fake grass for my babies and they are doing really well but they only have the run of the house for a very limited time period and I watch them. Sometimes they go to the grass all on their own but they have been raised that way from birth so it's pretty natural for them but I still would not leave them out and about with out supervision. Good luck! Your baby is awfully young.

Yea I agree, why is this pup away from it's mother already??? You really shouldn't get your pup until 12 weeks. I hope you are not letting your pup outside either.

Thanks to most of your replies. Remember, we are asking questions and are appreciative of the feedback. It went over the last 2 posts' heads but that's expected. :D

6 weeks is young.
we got ours at 9 weeks...not by my choice...she was my daughter's Christmas present from her father.
but...it was hard training such a young baby.
i put a pad in every room she had available to her until she was fully trained (this took about 3 months).
she would have a few accidents...we never spanked her or yelled at her (i think this is cruel...and they don't understand it anyway)
instead...we praised her for going potty on her pad. a big to-do. and i always said 'good potty'. (and always gave her a small treat)
she learned to associate those words with the pee pad. now...she can almost always go on cue. (this comes in handy when we go to other houses, etc)

she used to sleep in her crate (beside my bed). she started sleeping with me when she was 4 months old.
i never took the top off of the crate...in fact...i put a baby blanket over it. she seemed to like it dark in there...and i always had my tv on.

as far as leaving her alone...i bought a gate at petsmart and would put her in the bathroom with the gate until she was about 4 months old. now she gets the run of the hallway, bathroom, and kitchen.
they feel more secure in smaller areas.

You got your puppy a little to young, at this age they can hold it and hac=ve to go every 45 min..

You have to watch him all the time and put him at the right place when it is time for him to go. And don't carry him around to the spot, make him fallow you or he won't remember where to go.

Also make sure to use the commend pee/washroom or something when he goes so eventually you will be able to ask the dog to go when you put him on the spot.

i cant crate train lily or even put her in a pen or she screams and yelps nonstop and i mean nonstop once we waiting 1 hour and finally took her out as she burns off so much energy and im afraid she will have a seizure from hypo glycemia stress. i just dont know what to do about this .she is like clostophobic i think. any suggestions?

maybe if you put her where she could see you.
we called the crate 'night nights' - and i always gave her a treat and a toy when i put her in there.
she still sleeps in her crate when we travel...she feels safe in there. if not, she barks all night long.
maybe just try putting her in there for a few minutes at a time...when you will be around (not trying to go to sleep) ...give her a treat when she goes in...and then praise her for not crying. let her out...and then do it again and again...for a few minutes longer each time. consistancy is the key here.
