Need Your Help With a Rescue My husband I are getting ready to rescue a Maltese/s**tzu mix. We have one Yorkie Baby named Maddie. She is our WORLD. She goes everywhere with us, I cant even take a shower without her sitting the the bathroom with me if her daddy isn;t home. You proably see my concern. How can I bring this little guy home without making Maddie feel "replaced" or different? I would not do this at all but the little guy is going to die. He is 11 weeks old and left in a taxi on a hot deck all day, with evening shade only. The owner is family and has finally agreed to give it away. Help! Can I do this and be fair to Maddie? need some suggestions.:( |
Nana Is just as close to me as maddie is to you. When we brought Charlie home for the 1st time Nana was a year old and she did act totally different around us.. she was distant, and she was angry, didn't wanna play with her toys if he was. It took her about 2 weeks or so to lighten up and realize she wasn't being replaced at all. Now her and Charlie are totally in love haha. :D |
Bless you for taking in the poor little guy! He sure is lucky to have you and your hubby! I think Maddie will adjust in due time. She may feel jealously at first which is totally understandable. Continue to show her love and attention, let her see you love the little guy, but try to make sure you have your special time with her. I think she will love you more seeing how you can open your heart to love another too. Over time they will learn to live together and will probably become inseparable! When Honey Bear came home, both my cats were not happy with the addition to our family. They pouted, hid from her, gave me attitude. After a few weeks they all get along just fine, they lay together and play with each other. Just about every morning now, in my queen size bed, will be me, my hubby, Honey Bear, and if not both, at least one of the boys (cats)!!! Poor hubby is hanging off the edge of the bed! Bringing home the little guy will be a big adjustment for everyone in your family. But once you all find the comfort and settle into to life with everyone, you will wonder how the heck you did it before! Best wishes and good luck! :) |
No Problem!!! When you add more dogs, the originals may be unsure at first, just give them a little extra reassurance. Oh and you may want to increase the size of your bathroom... they will all try to get in. Cats too if you dare!!! Let Maddie think you're getting her a playmate. She'll still feel very special. My Peek a Boo got very depressed after our GSD passed. He was the only dog. I think he felt lost, or maybe that he would be going next... he had 4 homes in his first 5 years! We went and adopted Tinkerbell for him. She's a nutjob (work in progress) so I started looking for another. Now we have 3! They like being a group most of the time. Feed time is great ... they play musical food bowls till it's all gone! Then we have group pees, group poohs and gang sniffs. It's very hard to catch them for their walks. Takes a half an hour just to leash 'em up. Training is fun ... they're making up their own tricks to get the first treat ... it's like Dominoes! Relax and have FUN!!!! And if things don't work out ... I'll take em. Heck, what's one more? Need a new Bathroom anyway!!! |
Thanks for all your help. I have decided.....I'm gonna do it! IF nothing else, I can always keep him safe until we find him a permanent home. (Yeah Right!) Im a sucker for those puppy ways.:p |
Today is day one and Maddie HATES the new addition. She growls and barks whenever Cooper comes through the door. Also, Cooper turned out to be a girl, not the boy we thought. Maddie does act a little different around us, especially me. We have such a close bond. She wont even look at me when I am with the puppy. I am trying to give her all the attention she needs and more, while giving the new girl the attention she needs to begin potty training! I am getting so upset with the whole situation!!! |

Then after some time you will have 2 dogs at your heels not just 1 :D So get ready!!! |
Don't expect too much, too soon...take it one day at a time. Bella was my only :aimeeyorkgirl for over a year till I adopted Abby thru YTNR and it was a little overwhelming the first couple of days for all of us...but, it did get better! You might want to try involving them both in some kind of playtime or a short walk around the block...create a routine of doing something all together to help foster a relationship between ALL of you. This year, I adopted Phoebe again thru YTNR and it was much easier to introduce this little one into the pack. I also began fostering for YTNR so, every once in awhile...there is a visiting little :aimeeyork one until they go to their furever home and all the doggies do really good. Just try to relax & take it easy and your little one will soon realize that you're not replacing her but, adding more fun to the mix! :D Good luck!:animal36 |
