Something EVERYONE needs to know....... My nephew's 2 yr old wheaten terrier became very sick Monday, he vomited several times during the day. They called their vet and the vet told him it sounded like he may have a bug. That night the dog started vomiting blood. Him and his wife rushed the dog to the ER vet which is at least an hour away. The dog vomited so much blood in their car that they had to have it detailed and his wife had to throw her clothes away. Unfortunately Benny died in my nephews wifes arms on the way there. Benny ate a mushroom! They are called death top mushrooms and usually grow around Oak trees......My heart breaks for them as they had to have his wifes "needs" dog (she's deaf) put down just 1 month ago...and...because my nephew is laid off they can't afford to get her another...their cost is 4000.00. I just thought this was something everyone should be aware of. |
I am so sorry to hear this sad news. What a terrible thing to happen. just awful:( |
What a horrible and sad thing to happen to them all. That is like a worst nightmare come true. My heart goes out to them... :( Thanks for the information! |
Oh what a heartbreaker. So sorry for their loss. Such a sad sad thing. |
I am so sorry for their loss. Thank you for sharing the warning.... |
Awww :( <3 |
I just wanted to warn everyone...I know my little Lillie will run around (outside) like a little maniac and grab all sorts of leaves, grass, flowers...anything she can get and chew on it..I am CONSTANTLY pulling stuff out of her mouth. And....because of all the rain we have gotten we have mushrooms growing in our yard:eek:!!!! I don't know what kind they are but I wouldn't want her getting ahold of one...I would just fall apart if anything ever happened to one of my girls. I just feel so bad for these 2 kids. |

I live in KS and there is a group at K-State in Manhattan who raise and train service Labs and give them away free to people who need them. Surely there is a group around you that would do the same thing. I hate to see your aunt without a service dog. And I am so sorry about the little terrier. I have a Pommie who eats everything and mushrooms do concern me as they pop up after rains. ~Joanne~ |
I'm so sorry!!! Thanks so much for the warning. Ginger inhales everything around her so I will watch for mushrooms. I wouldn't have thought about them being so dangerous. |
This is so sad. My mom always told me growing up never to eat wild mushrooms. That they are poisonous so if they are poisonous to humans, they would be poisonous to animals. I have a neighbor that has wild mushrooms growing around her pine tree. In the years that they lived there, I have never seen the mushrooms grow in their yard. Anyone know how they can just grow out of the blue if they have never grown there before? Anyone know how you can kill the mushrooms so that they never return? I would like to know in case they start in my yard. |
