Im getting my 1st pup soon..need to know answers!!!!!! Hello, ima recent college grad about to recive my first pup ever. What i want to know is. is it better to get a 10 weeks old yorkie or one that is a couple months old? Reason being, Im a very particular person. I've been searching for month for the perfect dog for myself. I ran acrosss a male yorkie that is about 6.5 months old and 7lbs..is this a normal weight for the age? I dont want nothing smaller than 5lb but no bigger than 8..will this be for this particular yorkie?? Also, this yorkie is quite blueish silver grayish like but his ears do stick up.. Is this a premature color change that should happen later?? the yorkie is absolutley beautiful, as we allknow not every yorkie is "cute" some do look funny looking but he looks goos its just the color of the hair that is throwing me off a bit (as i said im so particular) What kind of food do they need to eat and when do i get him neautuerd if i decide on this dog? I livein Prince Georges County Maryland, so if anyone knows of a breeder or persong looking to rehome their yorkie please let me know but in the mean time can someon answer these questions |
Well, the "general" age for a Yorkie puppy is 12 weeks old. If smaller, sometimes they wait until they are a bit older. And a 6 month old that's 7lbs will probably grow a bit bigger than 8lbs, but not to much bigger. I'd estimate maybe 10lbs full grown? I think that sounds perfect in my opinion! I have a 14lber and he's PERFECT sized for me. He's still so small until I see him around a 5lb Yorkie, then he looks big, LOL. But he's so durable, doesn't get hurt easily, can be roughed around, etc... He's got the silver-ish color on his back but his legs/feet and snout are a tan/gold. He's only 8 months old though so he's still changing colors. I thought I'd be particular about color too but once you fall in love, it doesn't even matter ;) I keep him in a short cut, not the long hair. As far as neutering, 6 months is a great age, before they begin marking, etc. Food is up to you really. My personal advice would be to stay away from anything with by-products, unnamed meat, corn, soy, or wheat. Jackson loves Innova. I'm in Annapolis, MD, by the way! Cool to see someone else from MD :) |
thanks! i've been looking forever..where did u get him fro and price?? this person is selling for 500..its not really about price but more about looks..he looked better than most ive seenon websites like kijiji and puppyfind |
Have you actually seen him in person, or just on a website? I would not buy a Yorkie unless I have seen the furbaby in person AND the Yorkie parents. Or the breeder is well established, has a good reputation and is most likely recommended here on YT. There are so many nasty breeders out there.......and soooo many sick babies. Just take a look in our sick section. |
Have you tried craigslist? I looked there and on kijiji for a long time before I found Scruffs. You might want to find some one who is rehoming their dog, not a breeder. Scruffs owner wanted $650 but they didn't make me pay since I was (and am) by far the best home for him. I was the only one who was responsible and called when I said I would, showed up, etc. I'm sure if you find the perfect dog and an owner who is rehoming the fee probably isn't that big of deal to them. I was picky on the dog I wanted. I wanted him to be adorable, have standing ears, black and tan, house trained, crate trained, socialized, over a year, under 5 lbs... Scruffs has standing ears and is semi socialized and over a year. He wasn't black, crate trained, house trained, or small... but I fell in love with him and the little things really don't matter when you fall in love with them. |
i think he might get a little bigger than 8lb. I know all dogs have there own way of growing and the yorkie growth charts are just something to go off of. but my little girl weighed 2.8 pounds at 11 months and i never thought she would get bigger. But she is now 3.5 pounds at a year and 4 months she is done gowning now but you just never know for sure. |
