Potty Patch Has anyone seen this advertisement? Has anyone tried this product? Just currious. It has an interesting concept. :animal36 |
Yes, I've seen it a couple times and think it great, however, not sure about emptying out the bottom daily. How would you carry it without it spilling. I thought about it for the winter months but not sure Buddy would get the knack of using it. Thought about putting it on my deck but then again does urine freeze? It's getting so hard to walk on ice with him. Would like other's views on this as well. |
I have the doggiepotty.com (large size) and I love it and so does Roxy, but TJ is my 'bad' pee'er. He is so good at being p-trained. He will only pee on the pads or outside, BUT when I have either the liter boxes w/pee pads or the grass setup, sometimes he gets lazy and pees down the side of it.... So with the doggiepotty.com one, while me and Roxy love it, it is raised a tiny bit, making it more likely for TJ to lift his leg and pee down the side. It is a shame too, bc I spent like $180 on it and it is wrapped and put away... So, then I bought some doggie turf online and 2 flat plastic trays. Works just the same, but lower to the ground. I still put the pee pads under the grass to absorb the pee AND since TJ can and will pee on the edge, I have a piece of linoleum on the wood floors, then a whole bunch of pee pads and then the grass system. I wish he would stop peeing on the side, but he is 4.5 ys and I doubt he will stop it any time soon, so I have to take the extra precautions. I did order the Potty Patch for my sis. She just gave it to me, bc her hubby doesn't want it  But that's ok, I did pay for it and I'll use it (it is a good size and is closer to the ground like my make shift systems :p |
LOL Nicole seems like you've covered all the basis. Buddy is completey house broken, thankfully never any accidents. When I saw the potty patch on TV I immediately thought of the deck and training him to go out there in icey weather. I don't know he if would even use it, it was a thought. I wouldn't want to undo his going out all the time but only in icey weather would I use it. Do you think he would take to it without causing problems? |
It's hard to say... Mine were pee pad trained and I introduced the grass last year when they were 3.5 yrs old. Roxy LOVES it as she is my MAD MARKER (outside) - this grass inside is such a TREAT for her (go figure). TJ still isn't sold on it. Although, he walks kinds funny on real grass too, so maybe he just doesn't care for any grass feel. You can search online and just get a piece of clearance or odd cut pieces of doggie turf for cheap if you are just going to use it outside in the winter :) |
Hmmmm interesting, thanks Nicole. I have a neighbor who uses real turff on her deck for her Yorkie. Said she changes it about three times a summer:confused: I would think it would have an order to it. I told her about the potty patch. My deck is decorated in the summer months but the winter months it's bare. I am just afraid of undoing a good thing. Have to think about this but think it's great for those little ones who use pee pads. Commercial looks easy enough if you have a pet that cooperates. |

What's the diff between doggie turf and maybe one of those grassy looking door mats you can buy? I've been thinking about this for Roxie for the garage in winter or on wet rainy days. I was going to create my own since they are so expensive to buy. |
Just make sure if you buy a piece that it has a plastic or rubber bottom. Some of them have fabric bottoms, and also it is nice when they have the holes so the pee goes through. I found some at lowes but it is a special order. |
Thank you, I'll check around. I like the expensive boxes you can buy with the dip in the front to get in and out easily. I just can't spend that much on a plastic box with grass in it right now. Any suggestions for that besides a cat litter box? |
This is the tray I bought: White High Impact Styrene Tray - US Plastic Corporation I put 1.5 pee pads inside and tucked, then I lay the grass ontop. |
Thank you very much!! That is so cool. Guess what me and hubby are going to put together this weekend? hehe! |

I have it! I bought it to train my puppies on! I'm a believer! I'm amazed at how well they are doing with it! I think it's better than pee pads as it looks and feels different so they haven't gone on my rug at all thinking that it's a pee pad. At 6 weeks old, loose in my living room, they go over to the grass and go there. I think maybe they are exceptionally smart as well! :p |
If I could I'd buy that electric self cleaning litter box for my cats. The one for the dogs would be worth 80 bucks if it was self cleaning too!! lol! |
