How to make.. a helmut for a yorkie with a open fontenalle? She is very small weighing only 1lbs 8oz at 4 months, she has very erect ears so I would need to something with ear holes. Anyone have any ideas? an open fonatenalle is a soft spot on top of the head. If she gets bumped it could mean brain damage or death. She may out grow it and the plates may fuse together, we are hoping. |
1 Attachment(s) Here she is... she has a hint of Chihuahua in her. |
I have no info to give you but wanted to say she looks ALL Yorkie to me!!! And a beautiful one at that! |
:wavey:Welcome to Yorkie Talk. :wavey: I hope the plates fuse together too. She looks beautiful in the picture. :) |
I am new to this forum and really have no idea what I am talking about as far as this subject goes but thought I might try to offer a possible solution... forgive me if it sounds dumb...I am trying:) What about trying to fashion a helmet out of aluminum foil- then using it as a template of sorts and cover it with paper mache'? Then you might be able to use velcro to make straps at the neck line to ensure a good fit- It would be light enough but form a sort of shell to protect her tiny head. It might be worth a try. At least you could mold the foil easily enough I would imagine- then just cover it with the strips of news paper- then you could paint it up all cute- just to fit her personality. You could probably cover the papier mache' with a harder coat of something (varnish maybe?) to make it more protective. I would imagine that you need something rather light weight so as not to make her fall over-lol! Hope all of this does nto sound too absurd- maybe worth a try? |

I can custom make one for your adoooorable baby. I would need the circumference of her head and the distance between the ears though... |
This may sound really silly, but they make them for premie human babies. Maybe if you went to a medical supply store they could come up with something. Best wishes. |
I really dont think you need anything like that... My pixie has an open fontanelle and we have never put anything on her head...she is 3 and never has any problems. We are just careful with her head when we play with her. |
The circumferance is a hair under 8inches and between her ears is about 2 inches. If you could make me one that would be fantastic! I have also email the website to see if they have one small enough. The reason for the helmut is so she can play with the other yorkies. She has yorkie attitude and is fearless!! Any kind of pressure put on the open spot could result in brain damage or death. She has her own baby play pen at home and goes everywhere with me in her carry bag. She gets alot of human socializing but not much doggie socializing as I am afriad they play too rough. |
Check with Build-a-Bear. They used to have a little cloth padded, helmet for the bears. You could modify to make the ears fit. I just checked quick and I did not see the football helmet they used to have, but there is a camo helmet and a construction helmet along with all sorts of hats that might provide protection, especially if you added to the lining. just go to the accessory page of buildabear.com |
