So I had to do it! Hey everyone! I was in erie pa camping.. went into the mall and saw this lil cute yorkie in a pet store... hes been in there for 4.5 months hes 7 months old so cute and kept being reduced because he was almost full grown... my dads heart sank and he said we have to get em. I know ur never suppose to get a dog from the pet store but he was just so cute.. we brought him home hes alive fun getting along with my lola bean but im so worried! He was in a small cubicle for so long I dunno how I am going to potty train him. Lola was never in a crate but im going to buy him one tomorrow. Im so busy with school and everything but i live with my parents and they said its there dog but I want to help since I already have been through this with lola! sorry so long any suggestions would help :) |
I really don't have any suggestions but wanted to say congrats on you new little one. It's really a dilemma about buying from a petstore but I can certainly understand how it would be terrible to see that he was there for so long. I wish you well with him. Can't wait to see pictures of him. What is his name? |
Thanks for saving the lil guy! He must be sooo happy now :) |

Congrats!! I know what how you feel about getting one from a pet store. I had to get my Max from one. Sometimes you just do what ya gotta do. {{hugs}} |
omg his so adorable! congrats on ur puppy, buying from a pet store is a blah! at least u saved his life... sometimes i wish i had a million dollars and end this puppy mill non sense..:( |
Hello Sebastian, welcome ...... I know how you feel about pet stores, but again you have to do what you have to do! I know that they come from mills, but in a way I feel that they are rescued dogs also. I got both of mine that way. (I had to do what I had to do!) |
At least you saved his life and he can finally know what i t is truly like to be a dog! As far as the potty training goes........... He may never learn to not go in his crate. We had a poodle/maltese mix that we adopted from the humane society. She was six months old and had lived in a crate all the time because her owners were truck drivers. Since she had spent so much time in a crate, she was "used" to lying in her own waste and it did not bother her. It is a dogs natural instinct not to defecate where they sleep, but as other said, you gotta do what you gotta do, even with animals. With lots of encouragement and praise, she finally got to a point that she would not go in the house when you were there, BUT when left alone or during the night, she would still go, so we always had to crate her. On the flip side, Sadie was a lover dog, and craved attention (probably because she didn't get enough before) and was the sweetest dog in the whole world. I truly believe that dogs that come from bad situations "KNOW" that you saved them, and are eternally grateful. We lost our Sadie in Feb. at the age of 14. I still miss her every day. Lots of attention and patience are required when you get a dog that has always been crated. Pay lots of attention and learn his signals for when he needs to go, and when he shows these signs promptly take him out. Lots of praise and treats when he goes where you want him to, but don't be suprised if it takes longer to train him, or if he always goes in the crate. Give him lots of hugs and kisses, as he deserves it! |
He is adorable and so lucky you found him! |
Oh what a cutie. I am so glad he has a family now. I think with patience and rewards he will get trained. |
OMG!!! He's precious! Thanks for getting him out of there! I wouldn't worry to much about his potty training he's gonna learn from Lola... Congrats! |
He's such a cutie pie!! :) |
He is so handsome. :D |
Congrats! I know it so soo tuff when they are at Pet Stores or the Humane Society-I want to save all the pets when I see them! LOL!!!;) |
He is adorable!! |
you guys did the right thing ! this boy ig gorgeous! He is now safe and in a loving home . He can be potty trained , with patience , and understanding. Congradulations ! I am very happy he is out of there. :D |
What a handsome boy Sabestian is. Lucky little guy to go home with you, bless your kind heart. I am sure he will follow his sister and potty train as well, given time. He must love his freedom. This is exactally why I no longer go into pet stores that have dogs;) Buddy is from one and I know I couldn't resist getting another if I saw one behind bars again. Congratulations, |
Hes so cute! Im sure he will have a good home from now on :) |
Thanks so much everyone :) |
He is such a handsome boy! Congrats on the new addition to your family. I am sure potty training can be done the key is to be consistent in your training methods! Good luck and congrats again! |
I went through the same dilemma. Stella was in the pet store when I went to buy my parents' dog an Easter outfit at Easter, and when I went back a month and a half later she was still there, and I felt so bad for her. Now knowing how bored she gets when she's alone for 15 minutes--I can't imagine her being there for that long! Since we had been looking for a Yorkie from a reputable breeder for over three months with no luck (they all blame the economy for not having puppies, which I understand, but...we got a lot of negative attitudes too, which I didn't like), we decided to save her from the pet store since the local store at least had a good reputation and Stella's personality was stunning--not to mention ALL of her routine visits and vaccs at a great vet clinic for the next 10 years are free. I'm happy to say she's in great health, and the vet was very impressed with the health of all the potential problem areas--teeth, knees, spine, etc. Sometimes it just works out best for you and the pup :) |
Aww! He is such a looker how could you have passed him up! He is so lucky to have been saved by you!! You saved him and now he can start living and have a great life. Good luck with the potty training. My guy was 9 months when we got him and was only in foster care for 2 weeks and she had just started PT him. He has learned really fast. Maybe, it was easier because of him being older and not a lil pup. I am sure with persistence you will succeed. Just keep taking him out very often. The first 2 days mine just wanted to go and sniff the yard, but once he started going on all the bushes that was all it took. Within a week he was getting the routine down. Congratualtions!!! |
I sure if he could talk he would say THANK YOU THANK YOU !! He's a real cutie pie. |
