Leaving for a couple hours, what to do? so tomorrow im leaving for about i say anywhere from 6-7 hrs... i dont have a crate for my puppy yet because i hate crating him.. i want him to be free and run around etc! i try to potty train him but for now since i got him about 2 days ago i wanna him to be free for at least a week! now my question is.. if i crate him tomorrow! what should i do? should i put water + food and a pee pee sheet? plus his bed! or should i just put his bed! i feel cruel leaving him in his cage and im probably going to be feeling bad, but i can't let him free while im gone! his about 3 month's. very playful and energetic especially after he wakes up from his naps! also one last question my puppy eats! but he like eats a couple of things and seems to be full maybe because his that small he barely eats.. and gets full fast... to me he seems like he eats to little but then again im comparing him to other older dogs i guess =\ any help would appreciated as im going tomorrow! plz! thanks~ |
I think you should create a safe puppy "condo" (or den) for him. Kitchen probably will work best. Put his bed, food, water and potty pad. Don't put anything that he could get hurt with. Also, we got an automatic Kong dispenser machine that dispense Kongs (with food we put in) when we're gone. It's a lifesaver! |
I would make a safe enclosed area...maybe a kitchen or bathroom with hard flooring? make sure there are no wires or any other dangers that your baby could chew on. Put a peepad down in one corner, bed in another, a bowl of water and a bowl of kibble. Put out a few SAFE toys to play with and maybe leave a radio playing for comfort. Could you have a friend or neighbour to pop in a check on him? ;) |
I dont have anything to enclose my pups in so I leave them in my master bathroom with their beds, water, food, a few toys and pee pads. I make sure nothing is on the floor for them to get hurt or in trouble with and they are fine. |
when i first got my pup i also enclosed her in master bathroom with bed, food/water, few toys, and pee pad. i also feel terrible leaving in a crate not able to move around when im gone. after a few months when she got a little older and i know i can trust her to pee on the pad, i let her roam in my bathroom and bedroom. but ya i would start on just bathroom for now. |

Don't feel bad if he is confined. He will experience that as a 'safe haven' not a 'prison'. I also posted in your other thread... His stomach is about the size of a walnut. To make sure he eats enough weigh him every week and feel his ribs and spine. If you have to use a bit of pressure to feel them he's fine if not he needs more food more often. How often do you feed your little boy? |
