I can't believe my ears I was walking Maxwell earlier outside the neighborhood and surrounding areas. We stopped for a car to pull into the street, they stopped and the passenger asked me "if my dog was a male or female". I said, "male & why do you ask". She said, "I'd like to breed my female with yours". I said, "no", very sternly and walked on. I can't believe my ears~! Have you all ever encountered such a thing~? The license plate wasn't even in our county. Who knows what is going on in someone's mind that asks a stranger that. It could be she wants to steal Maxwell, obtain some $ for this. Whatever it is, I am 100% she is not a professional breeder and is out for something. What do you think~? |
I think you were wise to walk away. I bet if you had said he was a female, her reply would have been, she wanted to breed her to her male. I find it hard to believe even someone who wasn't a breeder and who just wanted to breed their pet would do something like that. It's getting harder and harder to be safe with our pets out in public. I think the ecomomy is partly to blame but theft of Yorkies is definately on the rise. Stay safe. |
Oh my gosh that is crazy! I would definitely watch your baby very closely! |
Wow there are some real wackos out there  |
It's that the weirdest feeling ever when someone does that? When my female Doberman was alive I had a guy drive by us twice and on the third drive by he stopped and did the same thing. I told him that she was not within the breed standard and that I had her spayed when she was six months old. He looked at me like I was speaking another language, so I started asking him how often he showed his dobbie and what titles he won. Of course, he didn't show his dog, so I ask him if he had the dog's hips certified and if he knew about the life span of the parents. There was no testing so I told him that he shouldn't be breeding as his dog could produce puppies that would have a life time of health issues. He drove off calling me a few nasty names, but I can live with that ;) |
yea thats good that u walked away! i was told that they are actually stealing yorkie's and maltese's etc! especially since they had a different license plate that was big sign of a no no! |

You're so right!!! It's a shame how our little innocent ones are the ones that pay the price for our messed up economy. I'm so glad you are aware enough to stay alert around someone like that so that you don't lose your little one. |
really people to be aware of too me Quote:

I had a woman do the very same thing when Twinkle was younger....just pulled up beside me as I was walking her down the street and asked if I was interested in breeding my dog! She had a female, and wanted to know if Twink was a male. It's such a weird thing to ask a stranger...she knew nothing about my dog, but would happily have paid me to breed it with hers (if she had been a male) Now that I have Wicket, a lot of people ask if I'm going to breed him with Twinkle when they find out I have a male and female. They look at me like I'm mad when I explain that Twinkle is spayed and I plan to have Wicket neutered (this Thursday actually!) Someone said to me once, 'Think of the money.' Oh dear  xxx |
I am regulerly asked if I plan to breed Alfie and Rosie when she's old enough, I also get shocked looks when I reply he's neutured and I wouldn't consider it as she's so much smaller than Alfie. I remember years ago I had a min-poodle who I needed to rehome as he wasn't getting all the one-on-one attention he deserved with the yorkies around. A man came to the door enquiring about him, by them he'd been promised to my future sister in-law whom he absolutly adored, but this man insisted he wanted him and intended to have him until told he was neutured, then he just turned and left. Knowing what I know now its a good chance he was a BYB or maybe a puppyfarmer looking for new breeding stock. At least I know he ended up with some-one I knew, I dred to think what would have happened to him in the hands of this man. |
